Boy, I'm glad I was away from the computer this weekend

A lot of idiotic posts/posters creep out... eek...

I, for one, am looking for forward to Saturday's game vs. Northwestern.

I was going to stay away and did for the most part, but it seems to be mellowing a bit.
I would like to see some one who has a way with words, do a little digging and write an article on, how many Hawks are in the pros, how many other teams can claim that many and what the avg of each team is as far as star recruits (say for the past 10 years). I think it is much easier for Bama to reload than us, yet we are one of the top 3 teams in the nation when it comes to pro players. Also why we are at it lets break down those top schools to violations and graduation rates and if possible what degrees players get and heck I would like to know avg gpa as well.
I remember the lean years and have always supported the programs at the U of I, so these things are not hard for me to see, but it seems like after the next loss someone should roll out an article just to remind fans what we are about.

yes, im fairly new here but I knew enough to stay away for a while.
Fire Kirk, of course always fire KOK, Kirk isn't emotional enough he needs to be more like BO, we are too conservative we need a minimum of one reverse per drive, we need to go no huddle hurry up from now until eternity, we need to blitz every play.

I should have stayed away, but someone had to try to balance the Hawkeye world as it was being tilted by stupidity and I for one was very disappointed in many 'Hawk fans'.

My thing is, if as a fan you melt down on a loss, you must have never played any sport or game and life is going to be very hard for you. Losses happen on the field and in life, it's what we do after those losses that shows what kind of a person you are. I think some people should think about that before posting or starting stupid threads.

Either that or you played sports and never lost.

Here is my recommendation for all the morons this week:

At least in my case, I'm not melting down just because we lost. I'm p*ssed because of HOW we lost. I'm frustrated from watching this team not make changes that need to be made, and expect the results to change.

When your philosophy is to generally lean on the defense to win games, that's fine. As long as the defense is up to the task. Our defense isn't up to the task this year. There's no scheming around that. We've been blitzing, and that isn't working either.

Which is why, at least for this year, KF needs to adjust. He can't just pretend that we have a dominant defense when we don't have one. We're going to lose quite a few more games if he continues to do that.

What we did (or tried to do, anyway) after a loss when I still played: we made the necessary adjustments to try an prevent that from happening again. Right now, KF doesn't seem to be doing that.

You are very correct, Olddude! Everyone loses at some point in sports. I went to Emmetsburg High School during the 80s. Championships in both football and wrestling were more common than not, but losses happened. The true test of a team is not how they win, but how they handle adversity. Coach Ferentz has consistently been a master in coaching teams that learn from their mistakes/losses and steadily improve, in many cases the culmination is a bowl victory.

I understand people get upset when their favorite team loses.
But some of the stuff that gets posted makes you wonder sometimes...

Either that or you're an emotionally crippled man-child who can't access the rational part of your brain.

I just don't see this being true. Cripes, we tried everything in that game. No huddle, hurry-up, shotgun, 311, power I, rollouts, cutback runs. Nothing worked. The plays that did work were muffed by dropped passes, poor throws, or bad blocking. I know we all anointed our wide receivers the greatest trio ever, but they could not get open downfield. Our most effective play, by far, was JVB scrambling when no one was open, which was pretty frequently the case.

You also contradict yourself when you claim that we didn't make adjustments but then point out how much we blitzed. That sounds like an adjustment to me... did it work? It seemed to, a little bit. But ultimately if guys don't make the tackles (or throws, or catches, or blocks) the schemes don't mean a whole hell of a lot.

Is it me(kinda newish here), or does one drop of blood go a very long way in this water???
It's comical at first when people get riled, cause I see some passion, and it just makes the day and the game interesting.
This weekend though....... Crazy how the talk evolves.
Goes from Fire everybody, we suck, stupid coaches, etc.... To....people all of a sudden being disappointed in "us" and such. I can't stand it when someone gets the wild idea to play speaker of the masses and assumes that everyone is having the same stroke or seizure he/she is...
I took some jabs here and there, mostly for fun and aimed at the mob.
I'm still excited about the NW game as well. Can't wait....
