May had 22 minutes compared to Basabe's 7. Something like that and Basabe was nearly just as productive.

IMO--If Basabe starts off slow... It is hard for him to get going. I think he just loses confidence and beats himself up on the inside and as a result he takes himself out of the game. I myself am like that and know other athletes like that. I have no doubt in my mind that Basabe is his toughest critic.

But it is a problem when May plays that much when he isn't really doing anything to help the team. May will take a few dribbles and pro-hop to the top of the paint and then get stuck waiting for a teammate to get open so he can pass it off. That doesn't help our offense at all. I'm not trying to call him out, but I can't figure out why he does that almost every time he gets the ball? I know sometimes people will drive to the middle of the lane and then kick it out quickly to an open player once they draw pressure... but he isn't doing that very effectively. He picks up his dribble and then stops and looks around. He needs to dish it off quicker before the help defense recovers if that is what he is trying to do.

I just feel like Ogelsby is better for our offense and I don't think he is all that much worse than May at defense. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is just what I am seeing lately. However, I do think May is capable of playing better than he did tonight, but that could be said for a few players. I just didn't think May was doing anything tonight to deserve that much playing time. Other nights he might deserve that much playing time, but I just don't think tonight was his night.

You are ignoring May's defensive contributions. He is one of the main reasons our perimeter defense has improved so much in the last month or so.

Honestly--watch the guy on defense. He is working as hard as anyone on the court and does a pretty good job with his assignments.

Offense is not the only way you can contribute to a basketball team.

Posters here are suggesting they limit May's and Basabe's minutes....Basabe played 7 freaking minutes last night, how much more limited could they be?

Bottom line is he just needs to pull his head out. At least May is playing hard. Basabe looks like he is totally disconnected out there and really doesnt give a damn.

I was thinking about that during the game last night. He barely played and I found myself thinking, you have to get this guy out of there. May and Archie both seem to have surpassed him defensively.

I like the line up mentioned by stormin. It worked well when we made that run in the first half.

Archie has earned some minutes in a back up role. Some nights we just need to be bigger.

I think May could be a tremendous 6th man. Lots of energy coming in.

Brimmed has the shortest "rope" of any player ever at the collegiate Level. 1 mistake and he is out. Honestly, Fran's "rope" is longer than mine would be.

If coach is going to make any changes with his starters it will be now with the 9 day layoff in between games.

Brimmed should be Brommer. Spell check.

1 more thing. Archie and may should not be in the floor together. It would be like playing 3 on 5 offensively.

1 point in 7 minutes with 4 fouls is all I need to see on Basabe. He rode the bench because he was in foul trouble all game.

We blew this one in my opinion. I've still ****** about it. (and by ******, I mean sports ****** as opposed to real life ****** if that makes sense). Been a while since I've felt this way about a basketball game. It's cool in some ways.

I think if you have cartwright in your starting lineup, you don't know anything about basketball.

We got down by two last night and what does he do? Tries to force the drive and travels. Every game he does it. Forces way to many things. He's way out of control.

I honestly would take Mays defense over anything Bryce has to bring. Not saying May is a starter though.

Marble
Oglesby
Gatens
White
McCabe/Basabe

May, Cartwright get some minutes. That's it. Nobody else. Those eight.

He needs to play Oglesby more right now.

Basabe is definitely a disappointment. He just dosen't seem to have it mentally. No aggression, no fire.

I will say this though, Iowa is still abysmal at feeding the post.

Gatens and May in particular are awful at interior feeds and Marble and Cartwright are below average. Ogelsby and White are the only perimeter guys who seem to understand ball movement and spacing.

There was one play at PU early second half where McCabe was wide open underneath, Gatens had the ball deep corner, and was looking right at him and for no conceivable reason just held on to the ball for an extra second and let the defense catch up and when Zach finally got the pass he was fouled instead of a layup.

Its stuff like that that can really frustrate a player like Basabe who depends on others to get him the ball.

TheeHawkeye you question our knowledge of basketball yet you have Oglesby starting? Oglesby is not bringing much to the table when he does not hit the 3 pointer. He has been awful since the start of Big Ten play.

Yep, this is a major issue. He's a player who gets rebounds and second chance points. He's undersized and can't create points for himself so if he does not bring it every night he will not get his "effort stats" (which is what the aforementioned are obviously. He is useless when his head isn't in the game. In fact, he's more than useless when he isn't putting forth effort, he hurts the team as he did plenty of times last night.
