Bowl traveling....package or diy

I have never done a bowl trip b/f, money, kids, and time always issues. This year may be an exception, maybe.
For those that have done past trips, do you do the package thing OR diy a la carte?
Seems you could manage your price better a la carte BUT all the package extras like ground transport. would be very nice to have.

And when I say past trips, I don't mean taxslayer type trips....talking the bigger bowls that draw (thats you, Rose, and other 'tier 1' bowls). Those are the ones that the Hawks hope are baselines for the end of the season.

All notwithstanding possible playoff.......

I've done DIY in the past.....did it first with the Orange Bowl during the 2002 season. You can manage your costs pretty well and, if you have kids, the flexibility is nice. If you go the DIY route, you can get much better seats going thru Ebay or some other site rather than the Iowa ticket office as those seats typically suck.
 
It's really a pretty simple concept. The bowl package offers perks but those perks aren't free.

Some of the perks I experienced when I traveled to an Outback bowl a while back:

Landed and loaded a bus and head straight for the hotel and luggage delivered to room
Stayed at the same hotel as the players so yes it was a very nice hotel
Shuttle from hotel to game
There is also a convenience to not having to find and book the flight, hotel and tickets
Gift when you arrive to hotel (mini helmet and champagne)
