Both teams have had 2 weeks to prepare for each other

LOL. Fitz has had the BLUEPRINT to beat us for a DECADE. NOTHING has changed (on our end anyway). A few yrs back Fitz made a comment basically saying that. So the extra time benefits them nothing. However, I am convinced getting 'coached up' for 2-weeks by KF and staff will actually HURT us more. Besides, KF is way above 'game planning' for any particular opponent. Just keep jamming that square peg into that round hole hoping one time it actually fits.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say he's OWNED Kirk. A 5-3 record isn't really tantamount to "owning". It started off crappy in Fitz's early years, but we have won 2 of the last 3.

Considering the disparity in available resources between the two programs, that is the very definition of ownage.

In terms of recent trends, they outplayed us for the vast majority of the game last year and very much should have won (and we had the FAR superior team), and they kicked our as*es up and down the field the year before, so I'd say the arrow is pointing down for KF in this match-up.

This benefits NW more...they are getting Vitale, Prater, and Shuler back from injuries....and they desperately need receivers. Meanwhile, Iowa has lost Daniels, and Willies and Canzeri has not recovered, so advantage NW. They can beat Iowa, and they know it. Look for a brutal game...close win or loss.

Iowa Fan #1: "Sounds like ol' Fitzy's got a little discipline problem"
Iowa Fan #2: "Ha, yeah, maybe that's why we beat em' in football nearly half the time!"

Seriously, the day I start bragging about maintaining a sub .500 but still "respectable" record vs Northwestern is the day I turn in my fan card.

I'm not usually one to be negative... but with that said I'm pretty sure Fitz could have his team prepared to play Iowa even if they only had one day of prep. He's played against Iowa. He's coached a ton of games against Iowa. He knows them as well as anyone. Plus the fact Iowa is about as predictable as it gets only makes it worse. Basically all a guy like Fitz has to say is show up on game day ready to play a physical game of football. As long as you do that our schemes and coaching should win us the game. If you don't show up ready to play physical then you're gonna get beat up. It's about as simple as that in my opinion. Fitz has outcoached Ferentz a bunch.

Those players have been playing all season.

Those players have been playing all season.

Then why did the Tribune report that they were returning to practice this week? Shuler had a serious neck injury, they thought and he was carried off during the Neb. game. The others have had injuries that kept them out of practice last week. Greenstein, beat writer for the Trib, says they are healthier than they have been for awhile.

Because they were hurt in the Nebraska game. That was their last game. You act like they are just getting them back this year.

They did not outplay Iowa last year.

Opinions vary I suppose. It was a fairly even poorly played game except for Colter who was really good. Northwestern had more total yards, rushing yards, yards per attempt, yards per pass but they also had 1 more turnover. Colter was 11/14 for 104 yards but got hurt on Northwestern's FG drive to tie it.

The game basically came down to a few big plays all of which went Iowa's way:

1. Colter getting hurt, Northwestern was going in for a TD and drive stalled out with TS in the game.
2. Vitale fumble with the game tied. Northwestern was on the move to win the game late
3. CJF answering JR's chuck & duck prayer in OT
4. LTP making a great play to sack Colter in OT

As for this game, going to DVR it and enjoy the day outside. I don't think the bye will benefit either side. IMO you have two average/below average teams that will play a fairly uninteresting but competitive game.

They did not outplay Iowa last year.

You clearly did not see the game. They dominated the final 3 quarters (total Iowa points the final 40 minutes of regulation play? How about a big fat goose egg) and would have won the game on their final drive if not for a bad penalty that took them out of FG range, and then a turnover on the next play. It absolutely should have been a loss for Iowa.

Thanks for proving conclusively that you don't actually watch the games.

If Iowa used the extra week to get our backup QB some reps with the first team, then I could see it benefiting Iowa.

Aren't penalties and turnovers part of the game? How can a team outplay somebody if they turn it over?

Iowa was driving for what could have been a game winning score as well and turned it over didn't they? Does that not count? Or what about the FG Iowa missed? Does that not count because it doesn't fit your narrative. The game was very evenly matched and Iowa won that game because they forced a turnover when they needed to and they made the plays in OT to win.
