BoneG's sullied image when it comes to basketball officiating

delaney definitely picks favorites. just look at football and OSU - this time around, he laid his chips on the wrong hand. picked osu, should have picked msu. the hype machine surrounding certain schools is obvious.

I always figured that Big Ten has a weird way of calling games and the dudes who have been around know how to work around it. I'm sure they know how to take advantage of most ref's flaws and work with them without getting T'd up.

Wow..another thread ******** about the refs.
Everyone in the country complains about bad officiating. Everyone. That is the norm nowadays with social media.
Get over it. People have been saying the same thing for as long as I have been watching the game.

Read some the fans comments when two other teams are playing. Go to their message boards threads for the game and read both teams. Nobody is happy. Complaints from both teams' fans.

IZZO, Matta and Ryan have better players than Iowa. That is how they win all the time. We need to recruit better players. Then maybe other teams' fans will complain that the refs are favoring Iowa.

I just know there has to be some conspiracy theory that explains everything.

Coaches cannot criticize officiating like Izzo did....that will get you at least a repremand, if not a suspension. Unless of course, you are Izzo or Ryan or Matta.

Whoa. Maybe Iowa fans aren't just a bunch of whiners. Interesting tweet from ESPN's director of basketball recruiting, the former head coach at Wright State and assistant at St. Louis, BC and Ohio State:

Paul Biancardi ‏@PaulBiancardi
Watched the Iowa / Wisconsin game this am .Who monitors and holds the officials accountable for all the bad and missed calls? #Nextgame$

Paul is a friend of Fran, I believe, but still this is a worthy observation by Paul.

I was hoping the new rules would help even it out vs MSU, Wisky and OSU, but in the Wisky game, they seemed to apply the new rules only when Wis. was on offense.

Izzo, Bo and Matta grind on the officials all game, as opposed to explosions by Fran. I would think refs would tire of the constant harping thru out the whole game more than the occasional outburst.
I did think that after the Fran ejection, the reffing evened out...it is a shame that is what it takes.

I'll submit that when Fran has gained the reputation and level of accomplishment and tenure in the BoneG that he will get the same treatment as Izzo.

Sorry but we're not in a vacuum, favorites exist, relationships exist, building up goodwill exists, winning titles and making Final 4's that make the conference look good don't get outweighed by actions in one game.

Time to start living in the real world and worrying about ourselves and what we can control. The proper thing to do is hope that Fran learned from this, accepts reality, and adjusts his behavior accordingly. If he (and we) don't accept this then we're going to look like babies and Henry Hediditfirsts.
I know this is gonna hurt, but you are simply a pussified conformist.

This is the heart of the problem. Officiala are supposed to operate in a vacum.

If officials operated with preference for coaches in a pro leauge it would be looked at as a detriment to its integrety and as such is not tollerated.

Fran has blown up about three times in his fourth year at Iowa. The UNI game was completely out of control by the referees and he Had to do something. That was almost criminal. At Michigan State we were being beaten up by the Spartans and would not fight back and the refs were letting them get away with everything, again I don't blame him for smashing a chair. It certainly got the teams attention since they beat a good Michigan team the next game. The third time he was ejected was at Wisconsin where the refs were giving the game away in the second half. We were not going to win that game the way it was being called. Fran Had to do something for the team and he did. He did not initiate contact with the ref ,who walked into him and immediately within one second called the second T. Bo was screaming at the refs the entire game up to that point and influencing the outcome......

Fran is a passionate coach who defends his players like they are his family which they are in a way. He has brought us to national prominence and it is not like he gets ejected every game, and in fact has been very composed most of the past two years, ever since the MSU game.....

The refs are going to have to watch how they call the games in the Big Ten now because they will be on display and earn a ton of negative publicity if their bias continues. From what one poster, who has read other teams message boards says, the fans are with Fran, however not all the Hawk fans are by far.....

I agree one hundred percent with Fran's actions.....

Sometimes something has to be done. Some people will allow themselves to be bullied and others will fight back and not take it.....

In regards to this last meltdown you say Fran had to do something... Why couldn't it have been 1 T to make his point??

Anyways, if you think Fran's outburst has brought some national light to big ten officiating I think your wrong. The rest of the country probably watched the 30 second clip of Fran going crazy, came to the conclusion he's crazy and went on with their day.

No way am I going to watch that video of the UNI game AGAIN! I was at that game and that was by far the worst officiated basketball game I have ever seen, even UNI fans wished they would have let them play. That game is part of the reason why Barta started the Big 4 classic in Des Moines so Iowa could still play the instate schools without having to do a home and away with them.

I do not know of anyone who think Fran is Crazy except people like you on the Hawkeye message board.....

Think as you please. I know what I saw and am proud of Fran for standing his ground. No one is going to convince me that he intentionally HIT the referee. How many games has he coached in his life and how many refs has he HIT......

Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I believe Fran and the team need our support right now.....

Think Fran is Crazy if you wish. I know of no one who thinks that Fran is Crazy. I don't give a **** what anybody anywhere in the rest of the country thinks, anyone who thinks he is Crazy is a fool.....

I never said he intentionally "hit" the referee. I never said I didn't support Fran or this team.

Here is an exmample of a headline.... "Iowa's Fran McCaffery goes bonkers"

WATCH: Iowa's Fran McCaffery goes bonkers, gets ejected from game - NCAA Basketball - Sporting News

All I was saying is... it brought no attention to the officiating. It was all about the coach who went crazy, which is true.

Please find me some information that you are finding about how this is going to change big ten officiating in the future.

Why would you use Crazy in the same sentence as Fran.....

Not very nice now, is it....

Do you really think he is Crazy, if not why use the word in connection with his name in the same sentence. Somewhat suspect, Pal....

As far as finding information about how biased the rest of the nation thinks the Big Ten referees are, google the referees if you wish and get back to me. I do not have the time for such things.....

When you do find information that the Big Ten referees are fair and their calls are honest, post it.....

You're wasting my time Jack.

I used the term crazy because that's probably in my opinion that is probably first impression people outside of Hawkeye Nation thought. Then I gave you a link where a reputable journalist used the headline "bonkers" which I think is save to say is synonymous to the word crazy.

You have no proof of the biased officials so this argument is over.

have a nice day

Iba has been wasting a lot of people's time lately beating that anti Fran drum over and over and over and...

Look... I hate to do this because it is part of a private message that I wrote to somebody but it's probably the best way to recap my feelings on the entire situation...

Perhaps my opinon is flawed becuase I do officiate high school basketball and I know when I officiate I miss some calls but it's not because I'm favoring a team or even give a crap about the outcome. The truth is I agree that Big 10 officiating is not always great... what I don't agree with is that the officials are inentionally favoring a particular team. I think that questions the integrity of the officials and as an official who openly makes many mistakes... it's not because my lack of integrity.

In regards to Fran, against UNI... I felt we were getting screwed and absolutely applauded his outburst becuase I felt it was just and the timing was right that it didn't affect the outcome of the game. Sure there were some bad calls against Wisconsin but that comes with basketball and I just didn't feel the same way as I did that UNI game and I do feel that the technical fouls gave the players an unfair shake and hurt the team's chance of winning.

Fran has done enough for our program that although I don't disagree with his decision making that night in Madison, he has my full support moving forward and it changed nothing about the way I feel for Fran. He is the right man for this job.

Anyways.... that's where I'm coming from.

So no I'm not anti Fran... I simply disagree with one decision he made but the good he has brought to this program far outweighs this one bad decison.

Iowa is averaging 14 fouls per game at home and 21.8 on th road this year. Considering who we have played away, that should tell something.
