Boise State...

Was looking around at the schools that will make up the new PAC12 conference and got to thinking...Boise State is going to have a permanent residence in the CFP.

That's buck wild. No other conference has a school that's so far ahead of all it's other members in football. There's OSU in the Big Ten, but the Big Ten will also send 3-4 schools every year. And I have to imagine it's going to do nothing but help Boise State's recruiting if you're going to pretty much have a guaranteed trip to the CFP every year. No other team is going to even come close.

Technically, they only get the automatic bid if they are one of the 5 highest ranked conference champs. It would seem likely that a reconstituted Pac 12 champ would hit that, but not guaranteed. And, it would not shock me if they tweak the rules again. It doesn't seem like anyone really like the current selection system.

Pac12 is going to be a joke of a conference. They really need to drop the Pac12 from the Power 5.
There is no more Power 5, even with the Pac12 at 8 teams it will still just be Power 4 from now on.

Until it goes to the Power 2.

Honestly it is the Power 2 right now. I just mentioned in another thread that the NC game should simply be the winners of the SEC & Big Ten championship games. It will never happen of course, these playoffs will be a huge cash cow for the NCAA.

One idea that the Big Ten was pushing was that the CFP expand to 16 teams and each conference would get the following number of automatic bids

Big Ten - 4 automatic bids
SEC -4
ACC - 2
Big 12 - 2
G6 - 1 (which includes the new Pac-8 or whatever it will be called)
Indy/ at large - 3 (with Notre Dame guarunteed a spot if it is ranked in top 16)
Total -16 teams

This idea was eventually rejected by the SEC, which favored a plan with the 5 highest rated conference champions plus 11 at large bids. This is why the CFP expansion has been stuck. The Big Ten and SEC can't agree on the format.
