Bohnenkamp: Cade McNamara Motivated

Thank you.

Trivia time:

Who was Iowa's offensive coordinator in the only season we won a BCS level game in the Ferentz era?

Who was Iowa's offensive coordinator when we lost 5 RBs and still managed a solid 10-2 record and a top 10 finish?

Who got the most out of Jake Christensen?
I almost spit out my coffee at this one. KOK recruited a consensus 4-star QB who was the son of an NFL QB and "developed" him into the most wildly inaccurate and unproductive QB of the modern Iowa era. By the end, the kid had the yips so bad he looked like Chuck Knoblock trying to throw to first base. That's like saying you got the most out of a used condom......

I used to have Northwestern season tickets along with Iowa tickets and I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Christensen against the Wildcats after he had transferred to Eastern Illinois. O'Keefe worked a miracle with that kid. An absolute miracle. And then he brought in Rick Stanzi. Do you remember him?

My god man, do you read the stuff you post? You are actually bragging about what KOK did with the worst (or second worst) QB of the modern era. By that logic, does BF get credit for squeezing the most out of Petras???? Laughing at that.

Also, the stats below show that JC was a statistically bad QB at Iowa and did not improve, and in fact regressed under KOK's tutelage. The eyeball test and the fact that he was benched by KF confirms that as well. The blurb from Eastern Illinois' website below also suggests he did reasonably well against lesser competition as he came in and won the starting job and had the best pass completion stats and TD stats of his career, which belies your assertion that KOK was some sort of miracle worker. This kid was sucky and KOK did not help that suckiness in any measurable way. Try again.

How so? In what tangible way can you expound upon that? He stunk day 1 was given a long leash because Stanzi wasn't ready at all and they were nervous to put him out that early. Finally they did eventually bench JC and that was that. The guy couldn't complete simple passes to Rbs in the flat. He was as bad as a D1 qb that was chosen to start games that I'd ever seen. Till Petras came along and BF put him out there for 3 yrs.

The poll question I'd like to see us as a fan base answer is who's better JC or Petras. Who would we rather have again? My vote is neither.

Good God, Christensen tried to hold the team together during the dreaded "FAT CAT" era. City Boyz, Inc. basically ran Iowa City back then and the team was falling apart. Christensen damned near beat Western Michigan to get us into a bowl game in 2007. That was just a bad team all around. Christensen played some good ball despite how bad the team was. He got beat out by Rick. I get it.

Jake Christensen sucked. Good leader. Nice kid. Could not hit the broad side of a bull's ass with a scoop shovel. The assertion that KOK somehow made him a better QB or even a serviceable QB is laughable. He came in as a highly touted QB recruit headlining the top rated class of the KF era and he regressed under KOK's watch. He didn't get beat out by Stanzi, he was benched because he sucked and it took waaaay too long for KOK and KF to pull that trigger.

On the poll question, however, I would take JC over Petras. At least JC had the good sense to scramble and make things happen with this legs every now and then. Petras just stood back there and went down if a DL tickled him.

I have said this a million times already. CM reminds me a lot of Trace McSorley. McSorley was a slightly better runner and CM, a slightly better passer, but the intangibles are so much alike.

I don't know what film you guys at looking at

Cade McNamara career rushing stats at Michigan

46 carries, +3 yards net total, 2 TD's.

What exactly about those stats screams that he is a dynamic rushing threat?

Is he Jalen Hurts? No. Can he give you 5 yards on a 3rd and 4? Absolutely. It is not so dependent on Lachey or whoever finding a dead spot and hoping the QB can throw them an accurate ball.

Negative. Stanzi wasn't ready to go in yet. It was in the middle of the season. Coaches were hesitant to make the move. JC was so dang bad that it forced them to. There's no rewriting history to how that went down. JC was extremely inaccurate and couldn't be counted on to make the most basic of throws.

The only thing I give JC credit for was helping recruit that class of dudes that came in with him. He did help with that. But as far as on the field goes he was as big of a bust as Petras. Had he been forced to play and start 3 seasons like Petras did he woulda probably been worse. He sure wouldn't have been any better anyway. Those two are 1A and 1B the worst we've ever had as starters

You realize those stats are through like 16 starts right?

To give you context, Nate Stanley had 161 running attempts for -104 yards and 2 TD’s in 44 games started

Spencer has 138 attempts for -294 and 11 TDs in 32 starts.

Cade will easily be our most mobile QB since CJ Beathard and those stats, when looked at with some perspective are pretty pretty good.

Stanley only had 2 rushing TDs with all of those QB sneaks??????

And skinny Petras has 11?

That blows my mind.

I recommend folks check out Cades tape from Michigan. His accuracy and timing with his receivers will be so noticeable right away. He throws such a catchable ball that he give his receivers a chance at getting RAC. Even on many of the completions Petras had he often was inaccurate with the throw. He'd miss high behind or low and the receiver wouldn't be able to RAC with it. Cade puts it right on his guys. Here's a tape I found and All is certainly a big part of it as well. He also show's his escapability in the pocket too. There's a lot to be excited about.

A wrinkle to the offense I think we can look for this yr will be is having a TE lineup at fullback alot. All did it with Michigan some and since our FB is already out it just makes too much sense. We have 3 stud TEs maybe 4 if Stillianos steps up as well. I could easily see All lining up at FB going in motion and running routes from there to create mismatches.

Thanks for the link.

He seems to make quick decisions and gets rid of the ball quickly as well. You mentioned his accuracy, which doesn’t seem to suffer when he is under pressure and knows he is going to get hit.

His throwing motion stood out to me a little bit. Not quite sidearm, but not over the top either. He kind of slings it.

I am looking forward to seeing him in black and gold and hope he stays healthy.

Christensen may be the biggest WTF? of the KFz era. Exactly what did happen to the kid? Was he wildly overrated coming out of HS? Was his supporting cast that bad? Was he overcoached? (that infamous "hard to learn" offense).

What was the deal?

You remember the 2006 No. Illinois game? He fills in for an injured Drew Tate and he looked really good. It was like we got a dude. He threw a couple of nice deep balls and he had that thick lower body so it was just an automatic 5 yards on that quick quarterback draw stuff.

My guess would be he was overcoached. Between his Dad and the coaching staff, he probably got all f*cked up.
