Board Observation- Maybe Jon Can Help?

Dean aint. Hopefully there is another prediction thread fail again this week from Mr. Vogs.

Using my sig as evidence, 1977 is probably pizzed off at the outcome of the game in MPLS also.

Meh.....no need really. I don't want people to stop making predictions, I just wanted to poke some fun back at those who were being snarky. My wife says I have a talent for being a pr!ck when making a point at times, so I figured I'd share my talents with HN. :D

What exactly are you asking Jon to help you with?

I have not noticed any decrease in activity. A win over Minnesota doesn't make me back of my call for Ferentz to move on after this season. Wins put a shiny coat of paint on the flaws but there are still serious flaws on this team that were evident on Saturday.

Really? Come on man, really? Don't you see the improvement in all facets, particularly at QB?

I think you are seriously flawed as an Iowa fan (if you are one at all; I'm guessing you are a Clone TROLL)

It's just like the news my man. People tune in when there's a train crash, and tune out when everything is rainbows and butterflies. The board is a place for people to vent their frustrations because they feel like their opinion is being heard even if it means absolutely nothing. There's a lot more frustrations to be shared after a loss than there is after a win.

First reply nails it. Controversy sells.

Really nothing to argue with. Kirk lovers are quiet also.

I think most are quiet because our eyes have told us that we are much better than last years team, it is pretty obvious. I think most also realize we are getting into the meat of the schedule now, and we are all hoping it leads to wins against the more quality teams we will be facing in the weeks to come.

So while I know it's only been five games, you don't think Kirk and his staff have done an excellent job of developing this team in terms of last year?

The next few weeks are going to tell us a lot about this team, but it's pretty obvious that this year's team is improved from last year. I think 6-7 are what I'm thinking now, but hopefully better. There are a lot of winnable games left, so I haven't written off a nice season as long as the team keeps improving.

(Are you reading, Section? Yes, I really do want Iowa to win! See my sig for evidence. :p)

Some of you are funny, some not. Cause if I recall, there were plenty (more like a lot) on here saying 2-5 wins tops. Thinking of course that those 4 wins would come in these 1st five games. Which means the rest are going to be losses now...we will see....

...but the single biggest complaint on here and by Hawk fans in general (myself included), is that we win the games we are supposed to win, and that we are competitive in all games. Well, even I'm not sure what "win ones we are supposed to win" means other than the patsies and ISU and Minn. Well, those are all accomplished, and with weekly improvements and competitiveness. If you are in that camp, you are satisfied thus far, but we all know the next 7 games can go either way. As mentioned, record wise, we are where "most" hoped we'd be....not much to brag or complain about....yet.

Each weeks game from here on will determine whether posters can gloat, get their panties in a bunch, troll, or be content. We shall see, but until the "competitive" part of the schedule is played, I would think most complainers AND gloaters are just content that we are here.

Give it time. I would guess most everyone had Iowa at 4-1 at this point. If the board is indeed quiet like you say it won't last for long. The meat and potato's portion of the Schedule is fast approaching. Right now I envision it goes 1 of 2 ways from here. 1- Iowa is going to have a great season (9-10 Wins) and way over-achieve or 2. It ends like a lot of people projected ugly, but with that ugly we must get win #6..

Anyway hold on HN because the fun really is about to start. I predicted the wheels to fall off and I really hope I'm wrong and the Hawks Surprise. That would be AWESOME. Go Hawks!

Overall a good post but Im not so sure about the bolded part. Its easy for people to say that now but I think a lot of people had Iowa pegged for 3-4 wins total at the beginning of the year.

Maybe Im wrong. At some point this week I will dig up the prediction thread from before the season and see what looks like.

Pretty sure you already know the answer to your question as he has answered it more than once.

You are obviously trying to get somewhere with this thread so it may be easier for everyone if you just get to it.

Jon has answered this in the last couple weeks? I dont remember seeing that. If so, my bad.

I can tell you that I predicted 4-8 again for this year. It seems pretty obvious that is going to be wrong, and yeah, I don't mind eating my crow here either, so fire away. :D

My prediction was made before I saw the team play this year (unlike some, I can only see the team on TV during its games), and also based on having a 1st year QB and what seems like a tougher schedule this year, having OSU & Wisconsin back on the schedule.

Rudock has looked a lot better IMO than I expected we'd see out of a first year QB, and the team has shown me some things the last two weeks, looking more convincing. So if you want a revised prediction out of me, I think 6-7 wins and a bowl game are a lot more realistic than I would have believed a few weeks ago.

I think the biggest problem most made when making a prediction for this year, was that many assumed that last year was normal for a bad team. I basically felt it was an outlier and should be thrown out. That the norm under KF when we have a BAD team is 6 wins. I felt even with a bad team we would get back to that norm of 6 wins, and it looks like we will. If we are better than that, then 7 or 8 wins are possible.

Good points, and I made the same mistake. I'm starting to realize that it's pretty useless making predictions about a team before you've even seen them play.. Each year is different. But it's fun to make picks and see how you do, I guess.

I have to say that my W/L predictions are about as bad as my game-by-game score predictions have been this year. Guess I better stay away from Vegas.

Maybe you should learn to avoid predictions when you have zero evidence to base anything on.

I gave my reasons for picking 4-8 in the post that you just responded to. I think we all made our predictions before the team had played a game yet, so maybe your advice applies to all of us who weren't able to watch the team this spring.

Obviously, the team is playing better than quite a few of us expected.

Wow..

To answer the question honestly, all the trolls and negativity even when the team is obviously improving is growing tiresome. People get tired of rehashing the same old stuff every week. Yes they are what most expected record wise but better overall.

There is a way to get site stats: Member List - Search - HawkeyeNation Forum

According to my queries there are 38,422 registered members. There are 962 members that have 100 or more posts. Since 8-1-2013 eight hundred twenty seven (827) members have made at least one post. Since 8-1-2013 527 of those with over 100 posts made have made another post, which may indicate a drop off of prior frequent posters. There are 33,585 members that have never made a post.

Pretty easy Section when looking at the schedule prior to the start of the year the bulk of Iowa wins would come early not late. If you predicted 4-8 or 5-7 I doubt you had Iowa beating Ohio State, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska.

You would think but it seems like a lot of people were predicting a loss in Ames and either in MPLS or in the opener against NIU. I would be shocked if a majority of posters who made a prediction thought Iowa would be 5-0 or 4-1 at this point.
