Bitchers

Yes. And doesn't Sunday's performance really all the more confirm that he should have been fired? I mean, those were mostly his players out there, no?

More of these threads already? Ok, I'll bite.. First of all, almost all of us wanted Lickliter gone, so I'd say the answer to the OP's question is "Yes".

I agree with the first response. The team that we saw Sunday definitely shows exactly how much of a mess Lickliter left in his wake, and he HAD to be shown the door. The WORST winning percentage of any coach in school history and players leaving the program in droves. If we don't make a change, then when DO we?

I've never seen Iowa basketball anywhere near this horrible in my 33 years on this planet, and it's going to be a major rebuilding effort for McCaffery. We are in shambles.

Unfortunately the Hawks hit a buzzsaw in the jackrabbits on sunday. They hit 10 three's which didn't help. Did you see their sidelines? Every basket and every good play was as if they were going to win the NCAA tournament. They were fired up and ready to be a "giant" killer. lol....... Bottom line is that they played well and Iowa didn't. Next....

I wanted Lick fired but I haven't posted anything negative about Sunday's game. I'm actually excited about the program getting a fresh start. Don't like seeing Iowa lose to SDST but we're talking about a program that is building from the ground up.

Fran and staff deserve a honeymoon for at least a year, if they are still losing to sdsu year next year then start grumbling, hopefully he can add some big ten athletes by then

watched Fran's old team almost beat the gophers last night, Sienna is really well coached and fun to watch, give fran time good things are coming

unfortunately some Hawk fans are tired of the Honeymoon phase and would rather be married with a prenup.

Not trying to be a negative nelly here, but we could have said the exact same thing about Lickliter and Butler, but it didn't carry over at Iowa. Translation: I got so sick of hearing about Lick's Sweet 16's at Butler without the results at Iowa, that I really don't want to hear about Siena, either. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just that I developed a sore spot for this topic the past couple of years about our coach's success at previous school(s), with a lack thereof at Iowa. :( Hopefully it WILL translate to Iowa this time.

Basically this year I am just looking for improvement as the season goes on. If we're getting drilled by 20-30+ all year long, then I will be concerned, but if we're at least improving, then I will be happy for now and hope for more W's next year. But maybe it will be more like Ferentz' 1st season - just bad all around. It wasn't until year 2 where we started to see marked improvement.

I'm not one who likes comparing football to basketball, but I guess two years should be the minimum before we start grumbling. Just keep improving, and we'll get there.

Fair point. That's why I'm glad McCaffery has done it at three different schools, all of which were in the dumps when he got there. Lickliter did not take over a struggling Butler team, he took over a very good squad. McCaffery's been through the rodeo several times... here's hoping he can do it again.

Another fair point. One thing this staff is not short on is experience. They know what they are doing, and seem like workaholics. I like it. If they fail here, it won't be through lack of effort or know-how.

Are the people ******** about the game Sunday the same ones who wanted Lick fired?

I wanted Lick fired, but what's ******* me off is people being labeled "negative" for breaking down the game and the current team we have. It's going to be a long boring season if all anyone posts is, "well wait til 3 years from now", or "give the coach time.

It's not ******** so much as breaking down what is in front of us right now. They might as well close down the BBall forum for 3 years if we can't talk about what is happening right now, which is not pretty considering we got beaten pretty well by SDSU.

I'm taking the wait and see approch for buying tickets for gifts. I was at the game but I hated how quiet it sounded in there. I wish more people would have shown up rather than just buying tickets.

I don't have an expectations this year outside of improvement. Since this was game 1 it is the starting block. We look to improve on that performance.

In my mind, the big difference is that Fran has turned around winning programs, as opposed to stepping into a successfull situation. Nobody can know for sure if it'll work but getting a coach who's turned around a loser is a good start.

Any ******** the first couple of years should be directed at Lick. If he had just kept Jake kelly,Jeff Peterson and Aaron Fuller on the roster, Fran would have a fighting chance to be competitive. Our upperclassmen vets are Cole..period. Cannot win with only a single upperclassman vet. So,yes, Lick left the program in shambles....way worse than he inherited from SA. Give me Cy Tate on this team, and they would have a chance. Or even Seth Gorney and the big kid from the Carribean...at least we could compete in the paint with those guys.

My ire is strictly reserved for Lick. Fran and these team are not at fault for the situation they find themselves in...all on Lick.

Can't disagree at all. By year 3, Fran will have a couple of his own recruiting classes on campus, possibly a couple more JUCOs, and it will probably be more his players than Lick's by that point. I think we can start getting restless if we are not seeing any progress in year 3.. Kinda like last year with Lick.

In the end, Fran needs to win some games, but he needs a couple years to get things going.

If he'd kept those guys on the roster, Lick would still be the coach here and Fran would be getting Siena ready for another run at a MAAC title.

The vast majority of the posts haven't been what I would consider negative. They are fair critiques of the team, such as how much work our defense needs.

I've seen one post that fits the mold for negative. One poster said he walked away Sunday without feeling like Fran is the guy to get this done. After ONE GAME. Now that is ridiculous.

But most of what's been posted so far this year is fine by me. As long as people are willing to support the team, bad as it may be this year, I'm fine with people offering their opinion.
