This team is gonna take its bumps but I think Fran is lightyears ahead of what Lick would have ever been at Iowa. Lickliter seemed disconnected from the team and fanbase and it showed. Fran has done a great job at putting together a solid coaching staff and trying to connect with the fanbase. I might but get blasted for saying this but I think Iowa basketball has found its Hayden Fry and fired its Bob Commings.

If they stay then Lick doesn't get fired, Iowa would be on the cusp of the NCAA tournament. Given they were the "best" players (I don't believe that in all cases), no arguement there. Brust and Larson would be on campus as well, no Basabe or Cartwright...so no "what-ifs" with people leaving or not, the program is where it is for multiple reasons and all of my ire is not at Lick, I have a lot of ire towards Alford as well.

It's too soon to equate Fran to Hayden, but Lick to Commings isn't a bad analogy.
Spot on. Commings should have stayed in HS coaching,just like Lick.
Lick was really more suited for HS coaching, where his draconian personality and style would be readily accepted.

I think that we can go back to Bowlsby's handling of Tom Davis to find where the decline started. Having a lame duck coach disrupted any momentum in recruiting that Iowa had achieved to that point.
To think the Hawks would be anything but shakey to start the season seems a bit unrealistic. These are just green sprouts poking through the ashes of what once use to be a proud basketball tradition.

No matter if fans are positive, negative or objective there are going to be perceptions that someone is being negative. The one thing we all have to accept, even if we don't want to is that sometimes taking 1500 steps back are what is needed to move forward again. Alford did some good things on the court, but the program was a mess off of it and he was a large contributor for that. Lickliter walked into mess, no matter what he did while he was here the program was degraded for many reasons. Todd did nothing to change that, he had not been in a situation to do so. in saying that, it hasn't always been easy anywhere for Fran in the beginning. Yes it is the Big Ten, but he and the Staff have a ton of Major experience and yes there will be an adjustment, the turnaround may be slower than we the fans want, but you can't polish a turd, it is still a turd. Iowa basketball is in a good place with Fran.
