That was a very sad day. I could not believe what I was watching. And then.....it happened, the dagger. It would be nice to have Iowa dish out shots like that to send someone home...

I remember that game all too well. Iowa had been in control of that game all the way to the end where they blew it. I probably stared at the TV in shock for about 10 minutes after that happened. I went through the rest of the day hoping it was a bad dream that I would wake up from.

Edit - lol, Iowa State is on this list twice.

I was just about to point that out earlier....(In the words of George Thorogood, "Better make it 3") :p:p

That last being Freddie's swan song. Gotta love that.

Hopefully they won't be put in that position this year. I think they would have to win the B12 tournament for that to happen.

I'll be praying that doesn't happen:

This game cost me a pretty nice watch. As soon as the 3 went through the hope I slammed my fist on a table and my watch went flying into several different pieces. On second thought, maybe it wasn't that nice of a watch ;)

Seeing the list reminded me of all the old BIG10 coaches I couldn't stand
Henson - Illiannoy
Heavecoat- MSU
Keady- Purdont
Alfraud- Wherever

Yes I know Bobby Chair and Johnny Orr where available to but I cant say I disliked either of those two the way I did the ones on my list.

Right or wrong, fair or unfair I blame Alford for that loss. That game was the one where I joined the "Alford has gotta go" crowd. That team was so good defensively, it had all the things you need to make a deep tourney run. I need to go back and look at the brackets, imo that was an elite 8 team.

I know the 5/12 is where all the "upsets" occur. Is it just me or were the majority of those upsets 3/14?

Yes but keep in mind there has only been 7 upsets in the 2/15 line with 20 upsets in the 3/14 line, this is out of 124 games. When you get up to the 5/12 line the 5 seed only wins 67% of the time (47 first round losses).

That was a good defensive team but overall I didn't think they would do much in the tourament that year. The BiG was the worst it's ever been that season. Not a single BiG team made it to the sweet 16. Iowa benefitted from that down year quite a bit. Had they won, West Virginia was #6 and Texas the #2. Those athletic programs would give any team serious problems.
