Big Ten's Top Teams

I disagree. This might be true if we were losing most of these games but that's not the case. We're winning. The Selection Committee's love for the RPI makes our more difficult schedule favorable IMO. Iowa's RPI is 7. Indiana's RPI is 40.

I don't think Indiana has any chance at the conference championship. I think it's all Iowa and Maryland...barring injuries on either team. And my opinion on this doesn't change regardless of the outcome tomorrow night. But if Iowa and Indiana were to finish tied for the conference championship...say 15-3...Iowa is probably a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Indiana is probably a 4 or 5.

When Indiana hosts Maryland in the season finale I suspect we will all be cheering for Indiana...if this game even matters at that point.

I concur and responded similarly in a post before any conference games were even played. I think it's good to get these teams early in the season opposed to later when they may be in a better rythm. It just so happens Iowa found themselves early and are playing consistently to take advantage of the schedule. It still is a juggarnot and Iowa did wonders with the wins.

Not sure what this means. Are you talking about "the top 7 teams' records against the other 6" line, and the fact that there are 14 teams in the Big Ten? I meant the top 7 teams against the other 6 top teams. For example, Iowa is one of the top 7, so they can only play the other 6. Sorry for the phrasing.

P.S. I chuckled as well, considering the fact that I teach math at the college level (Precalc-Calc 3 and Stats I and II) and have a Masters in math working towards my PHD. :) It's really the only thing I'm good at (according to my wife:()

Sure glad I'm not in college now...hate this new math. Smile!

My bad. Your math is fine - my reading comprehension not so much on this one. I initially took it as you were looking at the rest of the B1G which is 7 teams. Do forgive me.

Nah. I phrased it weirdly. I would have read it as you did.

We definitely didn't get any schedule favors this year. Although I hate to say it the comments we say about Indiana are the same things people said about us during football season.

Lol, I was thinking that very same thought today. If the pattern holds true then we should beat Indiana and Indiana should also lose to another team besides the two losses we are going to give them.

By the way who in the hell made up this schedule? I don't ever remember playing two teams in the conference twice before playing several other teams in the conference even once. Was hating it when the season first started and now thinking this ain't half bad. :)

Sorry. Was done pooping before I could double-check my work. Tried to fix it now. Should be more accurate, but am done pooping again. May need tacos for lunch before I get a chance to double-check my work again.

^^ after years of reading posts on this site this could be the best ever.

Just explain everything with the excuse of needing to poop some more, I luv it. It is a better reason than "that's football'

My takeaway is that the Big Ten scheduling in basketball is just ridiculous. A 14 team league does not work in basketball. Why not split into divisions, declare division champions, have a one game playoff at a neutral site, and then play the tournament.

Because divisions would be an equally unbalanced schedule as well. Plus what's the point when you get 68 teams in the NCAA field anyway. It isn't like there is only a 4 team BB playoff, where only the conference champ has a shot at making the playoffs.

There was a long article recently about how they put the schedule together...quite interesting. I think it was the Register...but not certain. It makes sense when one sees all of the criteria that must be met.
