Big Ten Writers pick Iowa 10th

Even if they are predicted to finish 10th, the fact that Iowa fans are excited about and anticipating Iowa bb again is terrific in my book. I hope they finish higher, much higher but at this point it is really hard to say how everything will fall out.

Iowa has done nothing on the court the past few(maybe more) years to warrant a better anticipated finish by the media.

I think 10 is low but 6 is high. I am guessing something in between.

It's tough to debate it, but I think 7th place is about the peak of Iowa's upward opportunity this year. Indiana should be better, NW loses their very good PG....Minnesota lost its leading scorer.

Iowa did lose Jarryd Cole, and I hope a few guys can make up his production.

PSU is going to be horrible and Nebraska not far behind...Iowa plays each of those teams twice...plays NW, Minn and Indiana twice too...so the teams the writers pick to finish 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12 comprise over half of Iowa's Big Ten schedule.

It's a good year to learn how to win again.
Is it time to get mad again?

Is "tenth" a code word for "back"?

Bingo. Vin nailed it.

Although to me, I really don't care where we finish in the B10 this year. It is not likely that we go to the tournament, so I am simply hoping for a winning season with momentum for another good recruiting class.

Heaping pile of ostrich.

Maybe it is just me, but the Big 10 seems very unpredictable and wide open this year. Especially and specifically after the top 3. I am pretty confident in OSU, MSU, and Wisconsin at the top.

Michigan- Personally, I've been saying all along they will miss Morris way more than many seem to be anticipating. He was the conducter that made it all go for them last year.

Illinois- Habitual underachievers with a whole new look.

Purdue- Lost a lot, who knows what Hummel will bring.

Minnesota- Almost turning into Illinois 2.0 with their disappointments. Potentially daunting front line, but questions with an inexperienced backcourt. Can anyone confidently say what exactly Tubby is going to make of this season?

Northwestern- Have never been able to put it altogether and are on the heels of losing one of, if not, the best player in school history.

Penn St- Blows.

Indiana- Like Iowa, they have a reason for optimism, but may be a year away. Creek's injury is devastating. Zeller is no Sullinger.

Nebraska- Not typicaly a strong hoops program. New to the conference. They actually don't look that bad this season, but apparently not many are still expecting much out of them.

To me it just seems like so many teams have such huge question marks and after the top 3 it seems wide open.

8th-11th imho, but who really cares. Won't be that great this season, but I love the way momentum is building for this program. Fran is the man.

Pre-conference:

Looks like a minimum of 9 wins, but for the sake of argument lets say we lose one we should not. 8 wins....then say we split between Creighton, Clemson, UNI, ISU. We are 10-3 going into conference play.

Conference:

Looks like 6-9, with questions marks at Minny, at Indy and at NW. Lets say we go 1-2 since road games are tough. 7-11 in conference.

Overall:

17-14

I'd say the program is going in the right direction since we went 11-20 last year...and help is on the way!

How do you like the 17 win over/under?

Pretty predictable prediction by the media. Hopefully we can protect home court and notch a couple of wins on the road. Never say never in college basketball. Would be nice if we could surprise a few people and end up 7th in the conference (but I know that may be a stretch). The good thing is fans are getting excited again about basketball. Unlike the past two regimes, we can see good things in store down the road.

Oh ye of little faith! Iowa will finish between 4th and 7th in the conference and be the surprise team of the conference. The neighbor has been burning leaves tonight although it smells sweeter than usual but like the song says "I feel good.......dunna dunna dunna".....about the Hawkeyes!!!!!!!! Just kidding never touched the stuff, but I am sticking to my prediction. Purdue was the beginning the last game of the season. I think the freshmen will surprise as will one particular sophomore. Basabe is a known quantity, the players name won't be written in marble, but he will be talked about around MACdonalds tables after the games. Yah I am going far out on a small limb here but hey that's what forums are about right? Goooooooooooo HAWKS!!!

I'm getting a little tired of being picked for 10th-11th in the conference. Not that we deserve much respect yet, but it's still getting old being picked to be the doormat of the league.

That said - preseason predictions mean squat so let's play the games and see where the chips fall. I still think we're in the bottom half of the league this year, but a 7th or 8th place finish wouldn't shock me.
