Big Ten Recruiting Rankings

Iowa ranked by each service:
ESPN - 3rd
Scout - 4th
Rivals - 6th

I want to believe ESPN is right but I think I'd go with Scout.

Rivals -I have always thought was a bit off with their ratings/point system.

Anyway - not a bad year by any stretch. Not a good way to end things but it happens.

In my opinion Kozan not signing today works in favor for Iowa - was told he changed his mind last night to Auburn - we'll see.

None of those sites are right. They all hate Iowa and once a recruit commits to Iowa they lose a star. This is common knowledge by Iowa recruiting experts. Iowa is probably last.

I like the way Rivals rates out players.. but their team rankings give huge rewards to grabbing 4 and 5*s.

Fwiw, grabbing Kozan would push Iowa to 5th in the B1G likely in the Rivals system.

It doesn't matter in the end.. It's a solid class. A lot better than you'd think after our two most recent seasons. Just would like "Teh Kozan" to sign.

247 has Iowa 5th in the Big Ten, barely behind MSU and barely ahead of PSU. Those three are pretty much interchangeable. Ohio State and Michigan are clearly the top classes in the conference. Nebraska has really good quality, but their quantity isn't quite with the other two. Also, here is how 247 calculates their ratings:

Also, if there's one thing I've learned from following recruiting for the last ten years, it's that team recruiting rankings are pretty much worthless.

Really??? I haven't seen you mention that anywhere yet.

Re: hearing we lose on thomas curry and kozan
Unfortunatley my source is usually spot on.....he knew about Curry last night and Thomas too. Thinks Kozan changed to Auburn last night too. We'll see.

I can't tell if you're being serious here. I'm thinking this is facepalm worthy but I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

the problem with rivals they deduct points for those that are 2* or less, i wouldn't trust scout, as Ward, Kozan and Lambert are only 3*'s, ESPN is not that reliable either, both Juco's are not ranted nor is Smith the post graduate, all 3 are flawed so it is a matter of either choosing the best ranking or ignore them altogether.
on rivals they deduct 30 pts per 2*, so you can add 150 pts to their total if you want to just call the 2* worth 0 pts as i feel a player is worth something

I think third or fourth sounds about right. Rivals has Iowa 5th now. I like Scout a little bit more though. Rivals has Purdue 4th and Northwestern 9th and I don't agree with that at all. I think NW should be no lower than 6th. They did a good job bringing in some top talent on defense and getting Prater. For all of the raving these places were doing about Minnesota's class, they sure ranked it low. I would have to agree that it where it belongs. Looks like they are taking the Bill Snyder approach by bringing in 6 JUCO players.

This stuff makes for great water cooler talk, but we pretty much know this with certainty:

1. We will lose 5-7 players due to academics, legal or transfer. Not unique to us....just the nature of the beast.

2. 3-4 lower ranked players will rise up and claim starting spots

3. 2-3 highly ranked players will hardly sniff the field

4. By their senior year, there will be about 8 players from this class that will be starters.

So to me, all this ranking BS before they've put on pads and practiced or played a down of college football is pretty meaningless.

Wait a second. This can't be right. ESPN is evil.

OSU and MI carried the BIG as most know. The nearest BIG entry beyond these two in any of the rankings (247, Rivals, Scout, ESPN) would have fallen anywhere from #25 to #36.

Hey columbus we were discussing this the other day, and Rittenberg has now confused me more as he reports what i once thought.

Minnesota has announced its 2012 recruiting class, which includes 31 members (25 incoming freshmen and six junior-college players). Before the oversigning complaints begin, remember that the junior-college players don't count in the same class and help Minnesota address numbers issues in older classes.

Eight players are already enrolled at the school.

So can you explain to me the rules again. Seriously I'm confused by how htis works in the B1G. Also, you said you could sign +3 and get to 88, so how do they make that work to get back to 85.
