From article:

“Good for Franny,â€￾ Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. “Bad for me.â€￾

How has McCaffery made Iowa relevant again?

“First of all, he’s a very good coach,â€￾ Izzo said. “But he’s also demanding. And he’s got some good players. I wouldn’t say he’s knocking down everyone’s McDonalds all-Americans. But those players are juniors and seniors now, some of them.â€￾

Tom Izzo - "I was disappointed in Iowa...." - talking about how Carver attendance went way down and support for the team lagged.

With all due respect to Izzo....screw him! When you've got a program who had a head coach that talked more about Indiana than the team he coached, who coddled and stood up for a confessed predator, who could rarely make the NCAA tourney and then, when he did, flamed out spectacularly...then had a head coach who thought that the Hickory Huskers played too uptempo, who lost players each year like I'm losing hair.....then yeah, people are going to find other places to spend their money.

Then again, I'd be disappointed too if I had to now face a program that I had as basically a guaranteed win every year. Plus, I'd also be disappointed now that my football brand of basketball won't be allowed anymore.

I think Izzo made that original statement when Lickliter was coach and the attendance dropped way off.

No, he made it to the Register just today.
That could be. But I think he was referring to Lickliter, not Alford.

I could swear I've heard those words before, though. Like right after Lickliter had his future freed up by Iowa.
Ima go do me sum googlin'

Crean was on espnu college hoops podcast and said he thought iowa and osu were being underrated. Thought that was interesting.

If I remember correctly, I think Izzo and Lick were pretty good friends. So I think his comment about Iowa fans was more in support of his friend. At least I think that is what I remember about Izzo and Lick. I don't think too many fanbases would support the product we saw during the Lick years.

I'm not sure if Izzo and Lick were good friends but I do remember Izzo standing up for Lick when IA/Barta fired Lick. Izzo stood up for Lick as a good coach who did not have enough time at IA, I remember the story. I think Izzo and Bo are just not happy of playing IA with Fran as a coach because it used to be easy wins but not anymore. Here's is Izzo giving a personal interview about IA and Fran. He is positive about Fran in general but his body language says more about not liking to face IA or he has bad allergies or tired, lol. Couple of things: Of course Izzo would have loved for Lick to stay on. It was an automatic 2 Ws every season and possibly a 3rd in the BTT. So he can shove off.
2nd: I like that Fran has high standards and even higher expectations of his players. I wish we had a football coach like that. Instead of the "woe is us" attitude that KF gives off. Fran is quickly becoming one of my favorite Iowa coaches.

Are you talking all-time? Because it's not like there's a whole lot of competition if you're only referring to current Iowa coaches.

All I have to say about Izzo is I hope the B1G really does tighten up on MSU thug ball. It would be one thing if it was called both ways during the games, but it is simply not.

I use to think I was being biased because of my love for the Hawks, but I have heard it from so many other basketball fans.

I just got to say it’s about freaking time! If they do crack down on it should be interesting to watch how MSU does through the year.

I dont have any problem with Izzo having a opinion either. It always interesting to see how other good coaches precive what is going on at Iowa

The coaches always pump the league's toughness this time of year, and Iowa not making the top 25 hurts the league....so no surprise that they are pumping Iowa...now. But they are laying in the weeds...like Crean, he knows he has a lot more talent in the pipeline than Iowa, and that Iowa will probably not sustain any top level of excellence unless they get lucky on the recruiting trail. The 2014-15 classes for Iowa will determine that sustainability...and so far..not looking all that good.
