Big Game for Basabe Sunday

I believe Basabe is going to have a big game against Creighton. He has a lot of motivation going into this game. One we finally play a team with a pulse. Creighton is receiving votes in the polls and is a very good team. Also he'll be up agaisnt a good player in McDermott. Basabe loves to prove himself against the best like last year against Sullinger. And finally McDermott beat out Basabe to play on the US team this summer. Time for Basabe to pick up the pace!

It is going to take a whole team effort to stop the Blue Jays. White and McCabe will have to help with McDermott, Gatens on Gibbs, and Cartwright on Young.

This team as a whole appears to be jelling. As much as I would like to see Basabe tear it up, I don't want him to become selfish and offset the flow of this team.

I think "hasn't been forcing things" is a better way to describe Mel, as opposed to holding things back. He's averaging 12 and 6 in about 20 min per game. I don't think he's played the final 10 min of the second half in a game yet due to game conditions.

Mel took 3 shots (I believe) in the game. I don't know how to explain that. Doesn't look aggressive at all. Very passive.

I would say this is correct...

that and NIU played such bad defense that Iowa could get a wide-open shot rather quickly (and did, to the tune of 21 3-pointers). But yes, would be nice to see Basabe more involved in the game. Hopefully Cartwright and Basabe step forward starting this weekend against Creighton.

I didn't see or hear the game. What in you opinion was the reason for so few attempts?

Did he get the ball and look to pass before trying to score?

A lot of wide open looks for the perimeter.
He didn't get a lot of looks down low.

That said, even when he had the ball, he didn't do much with it. Not attacking at all. Nothing like last year.

Hell, even Archie posterized him under Iowa's own hoop!

If Basabe comes out with the attitude that he did against Sullinger and Ohio St. last year, we ought to enjoy the results of the Creighton game.

Basabe is one of those guys I would almost run a few plays for to start the game. He seems to lose focus when he is not involved much early in the game. I think he is a driven guy from the sounds of things but I think he tends to not yet understand how to mentally get through a game.

If Mel has been holding back he will never be a great player. The great ones don't do that.

I disagree. Mel is a big time player who has not faced big time competition yet this year. He hasn't brought his A-game yet this year because he hasn't needed to.

When his A-game is needed, he'll bring it.

I respectfully disagree. Can't turn it off/on like a switch. Good ones, maybe. Great? Nope. I hope Mel gets after it Sunday along w/ everyone else. It's amazing that Hawk fans are once again talking about basketball games days before the actual game. I honestly can say a few years ago I didn't even know when we were playing and I'm a diehard bb guy. Go Hawks!

McDermott and Artino two iowa boys i cant wait to see them in action creighton has some size will creighton be able to keep up with our tempo i know there 3-0 this year as well im unsure on there style of play though!
