Big 12 slaps ISU for fans rushing field

What do you all make of the Big 12 punishing ISU? Do you think this may lead to Iowa banning fans from swarming the field?

ISU has already appealed and lost.

I think it's ridiculous that the Big 12 is addressing this at all. I don't think Iowa will change how they regulate this, but it is possible they could ban it if the B1G says it's a problem.

Another team, I think LSU, was recently fined $100,000 by the SEC for crowd swarm. the age of increased liability

Let's not use the word swarm. The only Swarm in college football is the Iowa Hawkeye Swarm! Otherwise it's stupid to fine any team for fans running on to the feild in a big win. Let the fans and student section have fun and bask in it! It's part of the in game experience. Now along as all Meatheads respect and watch other fans and not run off with a players helmet...lol..
C.J's I love seeing Kinnick being Swarmed!

I was actually at that game..and it couldn't have been any more in control. Yes, I was on the field too and yes I support both teams. (that and my high school budy has season tickets.)

I dislike the clowns very much but this is ridiculous. It won't stop it so what's the point. If they are worried about the opposing team well then protect those little guys and make sure they get off the field in one piece.

I don't agree with it, but if I'm them (or anyone with a big win), I take the fine, pay it, take the increased publicity it brings (we're still talking about them getting a small fine because they beat the 6th ranked team) and hope for one or two each year. Wish Iowa would've had the chance to get fined against Wisky.

I fixed the thread title. I couldn't think of another verb besides "swarm" at the time. ;)

How was ISU physically going to stop it? 60k+ fans versus 20ish security personnel. If ISU didn't previously agree to the conditions of being fined for such a thing, I don't see how the fine would stand in a court of law.

I kind of liked it when Iowa swarmed the field after the OSU game last year; and, I kind of liked it when Purdue fans swarmed the field after kicking OSU's ass. And, I have seen about 10 examples of running backs high stepping into the end zone without a penalty flag being thrown, whereas Akrum got a TD called back for doing the same thing. In short, let kids be kids. They have long, hard lives in front of them.

I've even seen them diving into the end zone ala Noah and no flag. I guess it's just a Iowa thing.

Seeing a lot of rational posts from fans over here. To me, what was most annoying is that the exact same protocol was in place as was for TCU last year and there were no fines then.

As I told my 7 year old son as we walked down to the field, when I was his age, ISU was in no position to ever have wins like that (even if WVU was probably more of a top 15-20 team at best), so Pollard will gladly pay that fine every time if it comes down to it.

We are rational over here on HN. Cryfan should try it sometime. Couldn't help myself.:p

SEC has had the Pitch Invasion rule and progressive fine system since 2004. This is nothing new people
