Big 10 West standings and thoughts

I'm not sold that tOSU will win out. They've not been dominant defensively, and haven't been the scoring machine that they normally are in B1G games. I think they may lose to Meatchiken.

Here's a scenario-

MSU wins out.
Michigan beats OSU.

Iowa wins out.
Wisconsin loses to PSU.

Iowa vs MSU in Indy, again.
I would take it.

What really sucks is that there is obviously a Good Hornibrook and a Bad Hornibrook. Unfortunately we played against Good Hornibrook and Michigan, Nebraska, and BYU played against Bad Hornibrook. I know Michigan was getting pressure but he was going down before people even hit him. He was so bad on accuracy, that I just couldn't understand it.

I think we took the wrong tactic with him...we should have blitzed him early...to get him rattled...it's clear, once he's rattled...he stays that way. He got comfortable against us.
Yeah, hard time believing that was the same QB that stood firm against Iowa's.pressure throwing bullets while looking completely lost against Michigan. Michigan smelled blood and brought more and more pressure. Iowa could certainly take a lesson from this. It was clear that there is a huge gap in team speed between the teams.

This team is different. I’m worried about Purdue, Maryland(though not really but they Jeckle and Hyde so who knows which one shows) and Penn State. Honestly Purdue scares me the most of teams left
Purdue is scary on offense, plus could Iowa take the punch Penn State gave Ohio St. in the first quarter and get back on their feet. There is just too much football left to be played for talk of "winning out".

Here’s why I think we have a shot.
Ohio St.- Meyer sees they aren’t running the ball well. He starts running more and upsets the momentum in the passing game.
Michigan- Since loss to the Golden Domers, they’ve been playing like Iowa.
Penn St.- I think Franklin’s “the next game is the most important game” speech is getting old. His players are hearing that same old line day after day, week after week.
MSU- No running game, average passing game. Good for an upset here and there, but not good enough to win a championship.
Maryland- Beat Texas, lost to Temple. Which team shows up on the road at Iowa? I’m leaning toward the one that played Temple.
Indiana- Middle of the road team. If you stand in the middle of the road long enough, you get squished.
Rutgers- Roadkill
Wisconsin- Their time at the top of the West is over. They just don’t know it yet.
Northwestern- Thorson is all they got. Defense not dominant. Living on borrowed time.
Purdue- Dangerous passing game but lacking on D. Can be trouble. A team to keep an eye on.
Minnesota- I hate to say it, but they are improving.
Illinois- Lovie will have them where Minnesota is now, but next year.
Nebraska- If their defense catches up to the offense, they will be on their way back up.
Iowa- We will be the Big Dog for next few years. How will we handle it, and for how long?

Definitely a good Hornibrook and bad Hornibrook out there. Stanley and most other QBs aren't immune.

This year is starting to feel like one of those Good-Kirk seasons of old where the team seemed to start rolling later in the year as the season went along. The good sign is that BF might be holding a little more sway over pops and with a little more experience is ready to become an experienced OC rather than a "feel my way around for a while" guy, as I learn.

Iowa will be motivated to beat Purdue, given last year.

The game vs Indiana was a masterpiece for the coaches and players. But the rest of the teams can all beat Iowa on any given day.

I am hoping for Good Kirk, Good Brian, and a "let's go for this thing" mentality throughout the team. And if you lose you lose, but at least you went for it. Over the years "too many putts left just short" for Kirk's teams.

And another 2-3 losses for the Badgers would be icing. Perhaps they can be the Next Nebraska... :)
