Big 10 West standings and thoughts

Lookout for NW as they have some magic going again. This is why I wanted Nebby to win yesterday. NW looked down after losing to Duke and another team early, they looked crushed after giving up a big lead against Mich but now they have the magic again with a late 99 yard drive I believe. And Iowa giving up the late drive to Wisky makes a huge difference. Hawks could be at 3-0 with a two game lead on NW and Wisky except for those two drives.

NW does not have a super hard schedule left and we have to hope the beat Wisky. The hawks still have to take care of their own business but the hawks could use a little cushion. Purdue has a tough schedule at OSU and MSU.

Hawks just need to win. Period. Beat Maryland, NW, Purdue, upset PSU, and crush nebbys soul.

Do that, and we dont have to worry about what nw does. Lose any game other than PSU, and it also no longer matters.

Win..... and hope for a couple more wisky losses.

I agree it will probably come down to the facts you say but the tiebreaker is in effect a 1/2 game you are either in front of or behind another team and you never can tell when a foe winning a game they should have probably lost will come back to bite you.

Who do you see Purdue and jNW losing to besides Iowa as Iowa has to beat them.

Well Iowa also has to beat Maryland this Saturday.

One game at a time, and let the chips fall where they may.

Maryland is no pushover. From a pure physical talent standpoint, they are up there with the best in the conference.

Iowa is in a good spot, it seems, having pissed away a game they should have won, and know it. They are hungry and don't have that dangerous " we are very good and are highly ranked" collar hanging around their necks. Iowa seems confident and ready to go for the wins instead of laying back and hoping to squeak one out.

All that said, the only thing important right now is Maryland. Focus/Focus/Focus

So had Nebraska won does that suddenly make the Northwestern game less important? Come on folks, it didn't matter, Iowa has to beat NW regardless and it was awesome to see Nebraska set a record for losses to start the season.

Fitz has Iowa circled on his schedule, he does every year and the team always plays over their heads against Iowa. It wouldn't matter if Northwestern had not won a game heading into the Iowa game, Iowa is going to get their best shot.

Well...the posters have it correct...if we want to win the West...you have to win out. Wisconsin could lose 1 more. Purdue is a scary team and they are just now playing their best football...so darkhorse label applies. They play Ohio State and Michigan State prior to our arrival...so they will be either in or out by our game.

The thing about Northwestern is that they are one dimensional with a guy at QB who isn't that mobile. They threw it 64 times against Nebraska. 64. I have to think this plays into Iowa's hands a bit. We are deep in the DL...so fatigue is not something that should be an issue, and we can rush the passer. He's got an NFL arm, and is accurate when he has time...and sometimes when he doesn't have time. I like the match up though...but it will be an intense game for sure.

I agree the NW winning or losing bears little impact to how they would play us. I love seeing Nebby pee that game down their leg.

That said NW almost lost to Nebby. They were lucky to walk out with a win.

They get NW best shot and Iowa plays right into it. Fitz has that shitty, arrogant look to him in this game like he owns Iowa and he knows it.

it doesnt make the Iowa - jNW game any more important but it sure means alot jNW won yesterday if they finish 1 game ahead of us in the standings (like last year) at the end of the year and they get a better bowl. Iowa has to keep winning and beat the other West teams but they could still survive a loss to PSU .

Some of you posters just dont get it that even if Nebby won yesterday they would pass Iowa in the standings.

You have to want the teams ahead of or tied with the hawks in the West to lose.

Right now the 3 way Tie tie breaker could be wild

What I see is no clear favorite. WI sucks it's clear the team they field is not up to snuff. They're gonna lose at least one more. 4 teams are still in the hunt

The team that wins the west will have a minimum of two conference losses, and, it wouldn't surprise me if it's three.

It's going to be a dogfight 'till the end.

Iowa can probably afford to lose one more game....but that game cannot be against Purdue or Northwestern.....particularly Northwestern.

Iowa could win 9 or 10 games this year and end up in the Holiday bowl. Taking on Colorado or Utah would be sneaky good games I just hope some of you are not too disappointed.

What if we lost one more game, and Wisy lost to say PSU or Purdue, then loses in the Big 10 title game, that would be four losses to our two, would we leap frog them in a bigger bowl game? Also, lets say Michigan only loses one more game to Ohio St in the regular season. They would get a better at large bowl game than Iowa (a BCS game probably) So if OSU wins out they are in the Final 4, Michigan BCS and maybe Iowa in a BCS game, like the Cotton Bowl?

Northwesterns hopes lie with Clayton Thorson. When he has a bad day they are bad. Right now they don't have much of a running game so they are pretty one dimensional. Defensively they are average.

I think Purdue has a better chance to beat Wisconsin than Northwestern does.

Yeah, I have thought about that. In your scenario, who do you put in the Rose Bowl? Michigan? Unless, Iowa can run the table the Wisky loss f*cks them somehow.
