Big 10 Title...a 3 team race

I didn't think it was THAT long ago...but sheesh...have to go all the way back to Tom Davis's team to find a W in Champagne:

Last games @Ill
2/26/2012: L 65-54
2/26/2011: L 81-68
2/5/2010: L 59-42
2/1/2009: L 62-54
1/10/2007: L 74-70
2/25/2006: L 71-59
1/20/2005: L 73-68 OT
1/17/2004: L 88-82
1/15/2002: L 77-66
2/24/2001: L 89-63
2/12/2000: L 78-50
2/21/1999: W 78-72

And before that, the last win was 1987. So I had originally had this as a W, but the reality is Iowa has one W in that arena in almost 30 years.

The 2005 game annoys me. We were so close to beating that team (they lost 2 games all year and one of those was in the national championship game for those who don't remember)

This. I was a junior at Iowa during this season and the thing I remember about this game, besides the fact that Iowa should have won, was the camera constantly showing an Illini student dressed up as a chef and Musberger and Lavin constantly chuckling at him and halfway making fun of him. That and the constant teasers for the series premiere of Tilt, which debuted right after the Iowa/Illinois game that night.

That team was very good with Pierce. What a dumbazz.

By no means am I disagreeing with you on any of this, but how is it "Truth" when its nothing but speculation? And because its speculation and we have no idea how the season plays out, there is no way to say that Iowa is out of the race.

While I agree with what you are referring to, let's not use phrases like "Truth" when its nothing more then speculation that has no truth or merit at this point in the season. It's nothing more than opinion.

When trying to decide whether something is the truth I ask my myself, "Did it set me free?" That did not, therefore not the truth.

Mich State at Wisky is easy win for Mich State. Have you seen Wisconsin play???

Assumptions – It’s a 3 team race for the championship. All 3 teams will go undefeated at home the rest of the way. Michigan is still a .500 level team on the road and will split the road games at Indiana and Purdue…still the same team that really should have lost at Nebraska.

Michigan State (7-0)
Michigan W
@ Iowa L
Penn State W
@ Wisconsin L
Northwestern W
Nebraska W
@ Purdue W
@ Michigan L
Illinois W
Iowa W
@ Ohio State L

Michigan (6-0)
@ MSU L
Purdue W
@ Indiana W
Nebraska W
@ Iowa L
@ Ohio State L
Wisconsin W
Michigan State W
@ Purdue L
Minnesota W
@ Illinois W
Indiana W

Iowa (4-2)
@ NW W
Michigan State W
@ Illinois W
Ohio State W
Michigan W
@ Penn State W
@ Indiana W
Wisconsin W
@ Minnesota L
Purdue W
@ MSU L
Illinois W

IMO – We have already played 3 of our 5 toughest road games…thus the win streak. I suspect Michigan State will win 1 of those 4 road games…probably Wisconsin. I still think Michigan will lose 5 or 6 conference games. In then end it's MSU 15-3 -- Iowa 14-4 -- Michigan 13-5.

Yes, I have. They have lost 1 home game this season to the hottest team in the conference...Michigan. It was close right to the end. There will be no "easy" wins at Wisconsin. I can see a person thinking Michigan State should win and they very well might...but it certainly won't be "easy."

I'm gunna run out and do some wind sprints tonight then hit the gym early to get in some extra free throws. I'll be ready!

Thanks for getting ready for the game! :)

Road wins at Minny, Wisky, and at Sparty is very impressive. It appears to be a 1 team race now

A couple weeks ago it was Wisconsin because of their soft schedule. Now it's Michigan? They have 11 games to go and it's far from over. Michigan State was missing 2 starters...likely to return the favor in Ann Arbor. Iowa will return the favor in Iowa City. And now it's a 3 team race again...IMO.

Yeah Michigan is the flavor of the day but for good reason as they did just beat 3 top 10 teams in a row with 2 of them on the road. But they do have another tough stretch coming up next month @ Iowa, @ OSU, Wisc, and MSU all in a row. But unless they get upset by a 2nd or 3rd tier team they look like the team to beat. Someone compared the streak Stauskas is on to the one Gatens went on a couple of years ago and they were dead on. He is playing at an unbelievable level right now, if he comes down to earth a bit then Michigan may look beatable again.

I was really impressed with their freshman PG Walton last night. They have some players, and they have a three bench players who contribute a lot.

I agree that they are the team to beat at this point. I don't agree that it's a 1 team race. I'm trying to think of an example of a really good perimeter shooting team that won quite a few games and then suddenly went on a losing streak. Wait I've got something...Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa State. All were ranked in the Top 10 and all rely on perimeter shooting.

Stauskas can continue to shoot extremely well...say 45% moving forward. This is a drop from what he's shot of late. They lose some points. The supporting cast feels a little more pressure and frankly isn't as talented...start to struggle. They aren't special inside. Suddenly they can be beat by almost any team in the Big 10.

No, and it still gripes me that Iowa went away from going to Basabe and Woodbury in the 2nd half.

We're 2 games behind Michigan with a bunch of games left and one of those is at Carver so really, it's like we're one game back (we get swept by a team we don't deserve the title anyways.) Plus, MSU's only one game back. It's far from a one team race. Saying so is ridiculous.

We do however have a lot of work to do. We still play MSU twice, MI once, and Wisconsin, OSU and at Minny. Not to mention at IU. Michigan has own at Wisconsin and MSU and is undefeated. They are in the drivers seat big time. We lose Tuesday and I think our dreams of a big ten title are over.
