Big 10 Standings

How close are the final standings to what you thought they'd be at the beginning of the year.

It's the best I would have hoped for prior to the Big 10 Season. You?

#5 Michigan State
#11 Ohio State
#16 Michigan
#15 Wisconsin
#20 Indiana
Purdue
Iowa /Northwestern

I agree with you.

I predicted a 9-4 or 10-3 preseason when the schedule came out.

I figured Iowa would win at least 6 Big 10 games and figured they could steal one win they should not in the Big 10.

This is why I predicted Iowa would win 16-17 games this year.

Iowa actually got me a little more excited with who they beat in the Big 10 this year. I know there were some bad loses but I think Fran did a great job with getting to 16 wins. There is still one more game to play to boot.

I did not see Iowa getting to 8 Big 10 wins so they exceed my expectations.

Now next year I would hope Iowa can figure out a way to get to 19 overall wins at least.

I think then the pressure is really on Fran starting in the 2013-2014 season. I figure then Iowa needs to get to 21+ wins.

Overall I think it was a great year for Iowa. Good attendance considering the last four years and Iowa played some exciting games.

Before the season started I was calling for a .500 season and at 16-15 entering the tourney they are right where I thought they would be. Yet I feel somewhat disappointed with the finish based on how the season unfolded. For the first time in years Iowa was in some Dance conversations in February. We beat four ranked teams, one of those on the road. Swept Minny and Wiscy in the process. So like I said, it's where I thought we would be yet it's very easy to look back over the season and say "what if?"

I think I predicted 15 wins. Thought we would win less in conference and more OOC. We really lucked out only drawing MSU, OSU, and Michigan once.

My preseason picks:

OSU
MSU
Mich
Wisc
Ill
PU
Minny
NW
Iowa
IU
NEB
PSU.

I did not anticipate Mbakwe getting hurt for Minny...he was a preseason all big ten performer.
I thought the Illini would be better...their frosh class was looking great on paper, which is a cautionary tale for Iowa fans with our incoming class...you simply cannot count on frosh, unless they are top 15 or better, like zeller. Better to be pleasantly surprised like with Burke and White.

I thought IU would be better but not this much better. Zeller was a perfect piece to their puzzle, and it took off.

Basically, tho, no super surprises. As for the Hawks I was hoping for as high as 9th,but on paper I thought getting 5 wins in the league would be hard.
I had us going 10-3 in the non-conference with losses to UNI,ISU and CU. Did not plan on Campbell or Clemson.
Then I had us winning 5 in the league season to go 15-16....and I was being a big optimistic. So, as it stands, the Hawks have overachieved...and I would always rather get surprise wins in the league vs non-conference which they did.

Nice solid step toward our goal of making the NCAA next year or the following year at worst.

Over exceeded my expectations in conference wins. Under exceeded my expectations in the non-conference wins and losses.

I think the Illinois and Northwestern losses down the stretch were the most disappointing (along with losing to Campbell and Clemson).

Overall probably overachieved a little bit.

Winning a game or two in the Big Ten Tourney would had more to the over achieving part for sure.
