Big 10 speed ranking

Talking about team speed. I would think it's in this order..........1. tOSU, 2. Mich, 3. NW, 4. Nebby, 5 the rest of the pack. Thoughts?

Ain't got none of that. Just going by the star talent, the look test, and last year's record. However, I believe if you did to the times/stats research, tOSU would run away with it. Of course, no pun intended.

Prolly correct. Le HOX gotta be down beneath Rutgers.

Honestly I think the Hawkeyes have quite a bit of speed relative to their positions.

All three qb's can run. Canzeri has elite speed. Powell and Smith can stretch the field. Ott and Alvis are fast off the edge. All 3 linebackers are fast. Obviously Lowery Law and Lomax.

Speed won't get you anywhere if they don't know where they are running. Coaching and awareness are key for the Hawkeyes this year. The speed and talent is there.

Ott and Alvis? Seriously? Iowa would be the slowest team in the SEC. One of the slowest in the Big-12 or PAC. It is likely bottom half of the slowest major conference in the country. IMHO, of course.

Indiana always seems to have decent speed and quickness at the skill positions on offense at least.

As for Iowa, outside of Canzeri and Cotton, I haven't seen a single skill position player I would rank with above average speed. People say Smith is fast, hope so, haven't seen it yet. Same thing about Powell. Heard his practice tape looks good though. Did I see that someone said Nico Law is fast? Does that guy ever play? With Lile & Gair he'll be lucky to stay on the 2 deeps this fall.

yeah seriously. What does the SEC or Pac-10 have to do with Iowa? Nothing troll.
Iowa will be in the top half of one of the fastest major conference's in the nation. IMHO, of course.

Check out the video Morehouse put online the other night. Powell is BLAZING fast. I'd put money down right now and say he's easily Iowa's fastest player. Even in JUCO, you don't average 30 ypc unless you've got a couple extra gears.

i don't honestly remember nebby being overly fast. i know tmart is for a QB, but are they that fast at the rest of the positions?

I don't think they had all that much speed on offense, but the defense was pretty fast (has been for several years now).

Actually he is right Iowa does have nice speed at DE. Alvis and Meier both had 4.6 40 times. DVC had 4.7 and Ott had 4.8. Those are pretty goood times for defensive linemen.

The PAC12 and SEC have nothing to do with Iowa this yaer as Iowa will likely not be good enough to meet them in a bowl game. Iowa might do well enough to meet a Big12 opponent though. We will still likely be slower than out opponent in that game though.

That surprises me (obviously). I hope that they can traslate this into the kind of quickness needed to pressure the QB.

I think part of team speed is does that team play with speed on the field. Fast guys are cool but if they are not using that speed to gain an advantage its pretty much useless. I think OSU and NW do the best job of using speed in the Big10.

Splitting hairs. They all have D1 athletes for goodness sakes.osu would have the most speed. NW is getting WAY too much love. The have a fast QB. Don't be suprised when the losses mount on their ledger.

I saw Carl Davis eat fast once. Does that prove anything? Neither does this ridiculous my team is faster than yours crap. Speed's important don't get me wrong, but if Iowa has a losing season it wasn't because they didn't have enough team speed...it's because the speed doesn't have enough skill and talent. That being said...I think this is definitely a surprise year and our D takes a big step in returning to the Norm Parker years.

I have to give KF credit. I think the addition of Reid to the defense was brilliant. I'm trying to identify what's different, especially after what we heard last week. We are going to put some LB's with one hand down in passing situations. Now, thats a bit out of the norm for Iowa's defense. I think someone is recognizing that although certainly our DE's will be improved, we additional options if we can't to the QB. In the past, we would have just told everyone to work harder. Someone's made some progress in evolving our D.

There is plenty to be optimistic about.
