Big 10 divisional breakdown according to ESPN

C Bus is a great city.

No. It is not. It is not a college town. It is not a major city. It operates between the two and thus, there is no there, there. Absolutely, no identity.

As a state capital with a major college, it is not Austin, Madison, etc.

It is basically Sacramento of the MidWest.

Now if you don't agree, give me a city to which you think it compares.

Keep in mind that we already don't play two teams each year. This is pretty much status quo.

Until the Big Ten goes to 14 or 16, which if it happens will be by 2015.

Even with 12, until 2015 you will miss three teams out of the 5 non-protected teams in the other division. So Iowa will miss tOSU 60% of the time until they go to a 9 game schedule. Not exactly status quo.

Upon further review I assess this setup,if true as follows:

1. Not as good as the straight geographical split but I was resigned to that already.
2. Right now, the West is stronger with Iowa,Neb,MSU,Neb,and NW all potential bowl teams this year. The east has two weak sisters in IU and Ill.
3. But, could have been much worse.
4. Purdue is a tough matchup, but could be worse if we faced Wis every year.
5. If Neb faces PSU and Mich faces OSU every year...Iowa has an edge.
6. Wisc gets a break in the East with MInny as their crossover rival.
7. OSU has a good route to dominance in the East.
8. If Iowa vs PU is last game...disapointing. I wanted Neb on Thanksgiving weekend to become a showcase for Iowa football.

Could have been better, but could have been far worse.
Minny lucked out.
MSU did alright.
Wis...not so much.
Purdue..not so much.

I prefer it to both Cleveland and Cinci.

Austin and Madison are both operating between major city and college town as well. So are places like Lincoln, Syracuse etc....

I think the area between the campus and the downtown is pretty neat with all the galleries, but I do see your point about it not having an identity.

Is there any evidence that the cross over games are going to be the final weekend for each school? I don't think that is necessarily the case.

I can, by using basic geography: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern.

You telling me you wouldn't take that? :)

NO! Where did we get Jewel Hampton and AJ Edds? Where did we get DJK and Ricky Stanzi? Where did we get our next stud on the D-Line - Carl Davis?

Nebby knows what it is like to have a division that is isolated in a specific region, it is a bad move. We would have only Illinois as a heavily populated state. Also, the three stadiums with 100,000+ seats would be in the other division. We would quickly turn into a another version of the B12 North. I have been saying this from day one. Glad the B10 is smarter than people on this board who always think the easiest solution to understand must be the best.

Rivalry Week has some options if they are willing to schedule actively and rotate some rivalries out and in on a yearly basis.

Ex:
OSU v Mich (Cross Div - The Big Game)
NW v Ill (Cross Div - Sweet Sioux/LoL Trophy)
Indy v Purdue (Inner Div - Oaken)
PSU v MSU (Out of cycle - Land Grant)
Iowa v Neb (Inner Div - New rivalry)
WI v Minn (Cross Div - Ax)

Obviously, the next year would need to cycle another game (Since PSU and MSU likely won't be protected rivals).

It would take some scheduling work, but it could be interesting. It would possibly mean that the Big Game would need to be broken up eventually in the cycle.

per your number 5.

Pretty sure the first factor that will set divisional championship will be in-division record.

So, if Iowa lost to Nebby, they would still have the upper-hand. Basically, I think Iowa would have to have a full game separation, with a Nebby loss in-division. This would mean Nebby would have to lose two games to Iowa's one loss to Nebby only.

So, if Nebby beat Iowa and lost to PSU, and Iowa lost to Nebby but beat Purdue, Nebby would still have the advantage.

Really now. I guess I missed the fact that every Iowa game is on TV, and has been for years. Where as a major problem for Nebraska is that the Big 12 TV contract is crap.

The whole 'recruiting footprint' doesn't hold the water it used to due to TV and the internet.

EPIC FAIL: Purdue AD

Not only do Purdue fans have the same "Iowa, what?" kind of feeling as we do about our new "rivalry", they also have the added horror of now knowing they are going to get ****-pounded by OSU, Penn St., the Sconnies, and Iowa every year. Just an epic day of suck for them.

* If the rumors are true.

Don't cry for the Badgers. They come out looking good in this alignment.

Wisconsin gets games with the three worst programs. That's three automatic wins plus 3 pre-season wins means they're bowl eligible if they have a team with a pulse every season.

And Purdue? Of the middle-tier teams: Iowa, MSU, NW and Purdue -- the Boilermakers would be the #4 seed.

So Wisconsin plays every year, the #9, #10, #11, and #12 seeds based on history since 1993.

Somehow, I don't think their arm was twisted to go play out East.

This would be an awesome week of matchups.
This still leaves
Iowa vs. Wisc.
Iowa vs. Mich
Iowa vs. OSU
Iowa vs. PSU
PSU vs. Neb
PSU vs. Michigan
PSU vs. OSU
PSU vs. Wisconsin
etc
etc.

You could probably have 2 big 6 matchups per week. Someone smarter than me want to do the math on that one?

Iowa-Purdue makes zero sense.

I am still unhappy Michigan and Ohio State are is separate divisions.....they are diluting one of the biggest rivalries in college football. Stupid move by the Big 10.
