Ben Kueter Attacking Two Sports

He says a couple of times in this piece that it's a process he's trying to navigate.

Odds are against him, but he should go for it.

I've heard people say he's costing himself in both sports by splitting time between the two. Who gives a shit if it makes him happy. It's his life.
He’s not smarter than the ones that came before him and did both. There’s a reason it’s never done and certainly never done successfully

For sure. Both coaches are on board so long as they are letting him try it who's anyone else to say he shouldn't? I just wonder how after 2 or 3 yrs or so how that'll look. Maybe he'll put on 40 lbs and end up a DE instead of a LB and that'll make wrestling heavyweight easier to navigate. If he's hoping to keep his playing weight for football at around 220 that complicates his wrestling part I would think. But he doesn't have to figure everything out yr 1. He's probably redshirting in both sports and will have a better idea after this yr how he wants to proceed.
Who’s to say? History. And history is a damn good indicator

Do you guys have a quarterback? Nope.
Do you guys have a FG kicker? Nope.

Getting out of that non-con schedule unscathed isn't going to happen, which means you will not win 6 games.

You should concentrate more on what is going on in Ames than Iowa City.

I'm a middle age guy, inching closer and closer to death, so I'm always rooting for young people to do what hasn't ever been done, doing the impossible, breaking barriers. You will never find a bigger cheerleader than me. I don't know the wrestling world that well, so I don't know if that young man can dabble in both worlds or not.

Carlton Haselrig
Brock Lesnar

These are the two names that immediately come to mind. Even if Kueter can't reach Lesnar or Haselrig status, I'm still rooting for him.

You’ve proved my point. Sindlinger wrestled one full year and the tail end of another. Both after his football eligibility was done
Dude, you said it's "never been done successfully."

That's factually incorrect.

Sindlinger started for three years in football, won 2 B1G wrestling championships and finished Top 6 at nationals twice.

How is that not successful? And if BK did the same thing, would that be "successful" in your eyes?

So even if you're right (and it doesn't look like you are) just because somethings never been done before then it shouldn't be attempted according to you?.... Good thing you weren't in charge of things back in the day we might not have had the forward pass or 3 pt shot by now.

It's the kids life and career. If the coaches are cool with it then I am. I suppose you think you should pick which sport he should focus on and what position he should play and what colored socks he should wear?

I was referring to “participation in both sports during the same season”. He didn’t do that. He wrestled after football eligibility was over. It’s my understanding that keuter hopes to do both simultaneously. Big difference. Enormous difference. And that’s my entire point.

The fact sindlinger was able to compete at such a high level after being out of the sport that long (at least from a competition standpoint) is unbelievable.

I wish keuter all the luck in the world, but I’m positive he’ll need to pick a lane or pull a Sindlinger
