Ben Brust to play in All-American Game

Last year's game had 2 players that were McDonald AAs. The quality of this game is high as the majority were top 100 players.

Sounds like it's sort of the McNerd's All-American Game. :)

Kidding aside, it's a nice honor, and if the rosters are as good as suggested above, it may provide a nice measure of what kind of a player we're getting.

As far as a Evan Turner or John Wall difference maker? No.

But he is a solid player, he'll give Iowa a boost.

This program is in baby step mode. As long as Brust meets the criteria below I am happy.

1. Brust better than Bawinkle? I sure hope so
2. Brust better than John Lickliter? I sure as heck hope so.
3. Brust better than Tucker? Well this is a must, Iowa needs to start adding talent.

#3 is the only factor that should matter. He will take Tuckers role so I hope Iowa has found a player better than Tucker.

Stormin... How much better is Brust than Tucker in your opinion. Anthony Tucker was not as good as advertised. Tucker was not that explosive, he was kind of a smooth player who could shoot but he was not really a complete player. He was not an explosive athlete.

Tucker's game did not translate to the college level as well as I thought it would. Then again he didn't really get enough consistent time on the court in his two years as a Hawkeye (that was all on his shoulders, no one else's). I still think Anthony can be a very, very good college BB player. I have not seen enough of Ben's game to comment. I have talked to a lot of people, though, who have... people who have seen him on the AAU circuit, people who attend his HS BB games... I think Ben needs to hit the weights a little bit this summer (he's already ahead of Tucker as a senior in HS in that dept though). Ben does a lot of things very good, though. He's a solid addition to the team.

He's playing in an All-American game - do you want to clarify what you mean by "decent"?

Decent at basketball, pretty obvious what I was talking about Spank.

Its an Academic All American game, its not the McDonald's All American game that I'm sure Hawkeye optimist like yourself will make it out to be.

Good for him, I hope he's equally as good at basketball.

He's a kid with a few mid major offers, whose a combo guard.

It is what it is, I'm not going to pretend he's something that he's not.

We need impact players, elite caliber recruits.

I'm big on all of the 2010 recruits, but mark my words there IH89, Ben will be one of your all time favorites when he is done and you will be claiming that you were always a fan.

There is NO bigger fan of him than me. I love Chicago bball, but I LOVE the way Ben Brust plays.

Watch out, you may get Spank all riled up, he has that major man crush on Ben(transfered from Tucker), and he may get jelaous if you lay claim to being Ben's No 1 Fan.:D

Where did I say I wouldnt be a fan of his? I'm not going to dislike him or anything because he's not the next Derrick Rose.

I don't think he's an elite college basketball recruit, a combo guard/ role player type. Which is fine, but at some point, you need a go to guy like Evan Turner or Robbie Hummel. Iowa doesn't have one of those, not even close either.

So, what do you think he can do next year? Start next to Cully? Rising Stars backcourt reunited? Average 10 off the bench?

Hey, coming out of high school, not even Evan Turner was an Evan Turner kind of difference maker! Good recruit, yes. POTY possibility? No way.

So--you never know! They key is to continue to recruit good athletes who are skilled and motivated, and every now and then you'll get lucky and one will develop beyong what anyone expected.

For example--Ronnie Lester!

No, I'm not comparing Brust to any of them...but that's just it: You never know.
