Below average OC until Kirk retires?

Honestly Iowa needs and OC that will bring some of his guys with him. Need a coach that can be tempted as Kirk's future replacement. I want a guy with head-coaching aspirations. I know, that goes against everything we know about Kirk.

Does anyone think the AD is going to interfere in the hiring? I'm using the word interfere on purpose. I think she has an idea of what she would like to see in a candidates resume. I don't think Budmyr (sp) fits the bill. He brought Hill to Iowa and was an aide to Brian. The results aren't good. I think she will want to see multiple candidates resumes. I think it will be an interesting hiring process.

If the AD started to butt on on hiring coordinators (absent more nepotism) she should go ahead and just fire Kirk. Firing Brian was a unique situation. (And the appropriate thing to do)

How is Beth "interfering" or "butting in" on hiring? She's the boss. If I'm hiring someone on my team, you better believe my VP has a say in who I hire.

24 years in and we've had like 1 or 2 above avg offenses, the rest below and some the worst, I'd say it's a safe bet to say zero good offenses to close Kirk's career. If we hired Mike Martz we might get to ~70 ranked offense under Kirk.

Philbin notoriously abhored recruiting. Decent at player development, but I doubt he would be a good overall choice for the role.
He's actually the one I like the most. He was the OL coach from 1999-2002, which speaks for itself. He was the Packers' OC from 2007-2011. In those years, they were 4th, 5th, 3rd, 10th, and 1st in ppg. He went to the Dolphins as HC and had 3 .500 seasons and was fired. He's an offensive analyst for OSU right now (whatever that means). As for recruiting, we've got some pretty damn good recruiters (Hodge, Woods, etc.), so he may not be as needed for anything other than giving offensive recruits some hope that they'll be part of a real offense because of his background (Rolodex?). Just my thoughts.

Definitely a solid coach.

The problem is we recruit by region, so any recruiting that he prefers not to do would have to be covered by the remaining staff, and they are stretched as it is. Recruiting probably would suffer with the reduced manpower, but Philbin can coach, no doubt.

I wonder........... does anyone tell Kirk the truth at the football complex?
Yes. Probably all of them. But the truth is not going to be what you would say it is. They are way above our pay grade.

Maybe not at this point.

No. AD’s should not get involved with hiring Assistants. But obviously, they can fire them. Input? Maybe. Certainly KF should be open with the AD about why he has decided to hire candidate A or B.

Based on the 24 year body of work from Kirk, yes O gonna be below average for the rest of his tenure at Iowa. Unless he can change. That's a tough one for an old guy and a guy like Kirk. One can hope though. If I care about my family and my career and I am established, successful OC, I would flat out ask the question on control of the offense play calling. If Kirk gonna handcuff me, I won't take the job. You'd have to find a guy ready to retire ( like Greg Davis) or a new guy who doesn't know any better looking for an opportunity. If you are already established, and good, you would need this verified before signing on imo.
