Belly Up To The Burger Bar

Dunno guys, it's so hard for me to find a place that makes food better than me for what I prefer. I cook so much at home and can make it exactly the way I want at less than half the price. This spring I bought a Blackstone Flat Top grill and use the shit out of it, it's basically like you're grilling outdoors but with cast iron.

My favorite burger that I make typically involved a topping where I combine cream cheese, crushed up crunchy bacon, chopped jalepenos, salsa verde and cheddar cheese. Heat it enough to melt it and use it as a topping on a burger along with some chipotle mayo and it's amazing. The topping also works as a dip with chips too! I used to make beer can burgers (recipe) but became lazy and realized it's a lot easier to just make a topping instead.

Smoked a rack of ribs yesterday and made about 5 lbs of homemade macaroni and cheese, I still have some leftover smoked brisket from a few weeks ago, some leftover smoked pork loin that I stuffed, some Hawaiian Chicken that I made last week (Recipe). Steak fajitas that I should probably throw away.

I go to a restaurant maybe once every two months and that's only because extended family wants to. I can't remember the last time I decided to go out to eat with the wife or family without parents/grandparents siblings etc.

Here's a couple pics of some stuff I've made recently:

Agree can pretty much cook anything as good as a restaurant would. The one thing I do appreciate when I do go out is a good dessert, some of which I couldn't easily make as good. Restaurants are good for a wider variety or change of pace. Trade convenience for cost.

Ah true, I cant remember the last time I ate dessert at a restaurant though - I'm just not a sweets person. Almost never have cake, candy, ice cream etc.. I'd rather have another piece of pizza or another helping of meat/carbs. I feel more convenient at home because with young kids, going anywhere public can be a big inconvenience :)

They should just close the whole SW side of Cedar Rapids. :)

And while they're at it the neighborhood between Washington High School and about Tenth Street SE.

Yeah SW side leaves a bit to be desired. The new collins road bypass to the west of town and connection to 30 will help new development. But man once you get a little west on 30 it is just farm country with nothing for miles and miles and miles.

How about a delicious cheeseburger from McDonalds?

Look, I'm not saying McDonald's is haute cuisine or anything, but the quarter pounder with cheese is actually a decent burger. I'm not a huge fan of "American Cheese" but aside from that, the things are pretty decent. The patties are seasoned well. The buns are always toasted and the sesame seeds are a nice touch. The toppings are okay (granted mayo would really kick it up). There are a lot of local places that claim to have good burgers who eff up some element of the production, be it failing to properly season the meat or who just plop it on a plain bun.

I haven't looked at every post, but, has anyone else noticed that Wendy's burgers (which used to be fairly decent), now have a weird subtle fishy aftertaste?

I first noticed it a couple of years ago and blew it off as possibly some kind of contamination from the fryer, but, I've had maybe three since, and noticed it every time.

I like the Double Stacks at Wendy's and have never noticed a weird fishy taste. Maybe it's just your natural breath;)
