Becky Hammon as coach?

Only sort of. My point is why does Iowa need to follow the model everyone else does? Use a search firm, hire a mid-major coach who got his team to the sweet 16 that month, hope you can compete against the teams who ultimately hire away that level of coach (if they turn out to be successful) and have more resources?

That's a losing game.

Why not look for market inefficiencies? Coaches who are undervalued for various reasons by the market. Or GMs who may be able to more greatly impact the payroll and ultimately the roster and thus win total than any head coach.

Iowa is in a perfect position to roll the dice. A football team that brings in a ton of revenue, a massive TV contract from the Big Ten TV deal, and an apathetic fan base with low expectations.

Let's try fucking something else for once. Or just keep Fran, who I think has done a nice job with limited resources and plays a fun style.
Bump. Is she the mystery candidate?

If we are looking for a woman to take over the program. I will put forth former Oregon woman's coach and Iowa legacy Jody Runge.

Bump. Is she the mystery candidate?

This would be a surprise but a good one.

Here are the Top 5 aid coaches in the WNBA:
1. Nate Tibbets - Phx Mercury - $1.2M
2. Becky Hammons - LasVegas Aces - $!1M
3. Lynne Roberts - LA Sparks - $709,500
4. Cheryl Reeve - Minnesota Lynx - $700,000
5. Sandy Brondello - New York Liberty - $500,000

So, relatively speaking WNBA coaches are vastly underpaid. What would it take to get Becky to jump? Chad Leistikow of Hawkcentral suggested Iowa could put together a $4M plus package if all the pieces could be fit together. Would that be attractive? I'd think so.

The eight years she spent under Pops with the Spurs tells me she can handle the men's game.

Chad Liestikow also reported Illinois who beat us in the B1G tourney and isn't ranked in the AP poll had $5.75 million in NIL salary vs Iowa's $1.5 million.

Again, you're worrying about something that isn't the top priority.

I mean I'm kind of having fun with this, but you got a better coaching candidate for the Iowa men's bball opening than Becky Hammon in terms of immediately boosting NIL? With a little marketing and outreach, I think the Hawks would be flush with cash in short order.
