Beathard may Start?

The bottom line is Ferentz finished 7-3 in a season where he should have finished 9-3 minimum.

Iowa fans have short memories....If (a big if) Iowa comes out and plays well and defeats Tennessee, most fans will be satisfied until next fall.

If Iowa loses, the howling will continue

I agree he should have gone 9-3. I also think he needs this Bowl win pretty bad. Not that he will lose his job. But he really needs something positive so he can move on to what he wants to do with the program. KF wants another run, No doubt in my mind. This year has to be a big disappointment to him so far

I would say in 2013 was a year where new changes were rolled out in offense, defense and special that starting to click in mid-season and iowa finished strong.

For whatever reason, it did not happen in 2014. There signs the offense was getting better, but it was hot and cold. Same with defense and punting.

The only thing that improved dramaticly during the season was FG kicking. That looked like it was going to be a disaster but Koehn might win the award for most improvement. One nice thing about the early FG problems was it got Ferentz comfortable with going for it on 4th down.

You are right. I wasn't clear. I didn't mean to leave the impression that anyone should banter about politics here. We shouldn't. The point I was trying to make is that I bet a majority of the butt-hurt whiners and haters that whine and hate on coaches/players don't do anything (complain volunteer or even vote) where life really matters.

And by the way just writing the word "politician" isn't bringing political discussion of philosophy/party affiliation into a football site.

And genius, there are no such people as u.s. americans.
There are Americans.
There are no u.s. americans.

I think Ricky Stanzi said something like that.

"Like...such as...u.s. americans can help to educate the other peoples... like such as..." or something along those lines
Sorry, "u.s. americans" was my ode to a past S.C. miss american contestant.

Would never throw a disparaging word at Stanzi.

Want to make it clear too, i can't say that i personally know or hate KF, i don't. But he sure comes off as a pompous jerk most the time. >>snort<<

Rumors are JR is getting the 1st team reps so far... Will that change in the next week your guess is as good as mine. But they aren't splitting them Sunshine has been with the twos.

That is definitely part of it for me. Bottom line, if you are not playing or coaching, sports are entertainment and nothing more. To me, things are much more entertaining if you are optimistic and supportive. Even though you might recognize flaws in "your guys," you continue to root for them.

But beyond that, there is a wealth of evidence that points towards KF being a decent human being.

I am fascinated by the phenomenon of fans who do not know KF at all on a personal level (correct me if I am wrong on that one) making vicious and scathing character attacks based on 1) a failure to win football games and 2) a few press conference utterances.

I think there are much easier explanations that do not require character assassinations.

For those that level the strong character attacks, have you ever had any interaction with him? Do you know someone who has worked closely with him? If not, why do you choose to attack the person as opposed to the performance?
Very good post, man, very good.

Judging a coach's job performance?
Sure. That's all we can do because that's all we can see.

Judging a coach's character that I don't know? Using a job performance and/or player's performance to judge his character?

"No" to both those questions.
That says more about the people saying those words than to whom they're directed against.

If Iowa loses, the howling will intensify.

This is a huge game for KF.

Yeah, I remember the quip.

She'll be the president of the University of Iowa someday.

What about u.s. north americans?

I guess I just don't get that sense at all, but I am not going to tell you how you should perceive something.

This is how I see it. Kirk isn't lying to us. He's lying to himself. It's like when I used to play poker all the time.
I would drive to the casino and think about all the holes in my game. I would tell myself how I was going to play hands differently this time. Then when the time comes, I always find a reason not to do it that hand. I always tell myself it's not the time and I'll do it next time. Then I drive home and realize I played the exact same way as I always do. It's hard to change what you're comfortable with. Good poker players and good coaches can. I can't and Kirk can't.

So the question for you, since you admit "you can't", do you still drive to the casino and play poker? Or, if your married, does your wife still LET you drive to the casino and play poker?

Good Post CP. I think most of these people wouldn't say the things they do if they couldn't hide behind the internet

I can't believe someone downvoted this. CP87's post was excellent. LASBUR's post is one thing that CP87 left out, and is an excellent point. Yet, as CP87 said, people are hiding behind the internet.

Ha not really. Not because I suck or because my wife won't let me though. I do what I want when I want. I can say that comfortably because she doesn't go on HN. I just slowly got out of the habbit of going.

Accidental click, maybe? I occasionally see things down-voted that can't reasonably be construed as objectionable, and that is the only thing I can think of.

The problem with yours and CP87's posts are that they are revisionist. I cannot recall any character assassinations towards coach. There is no need for any as his job performance provides plenty of evidence to lead one to believe he shouldn't be the Iowa coach any longer.

There is a post on another site that Pittsburgh Panthers have had 5 head coaches in the past 6 seasons. Since 2010, Pit is 33-31. Iowa, is 34-29 with Iowa winning 2 head to head matches. Both times, Iowa had to come back in the 2nd half to win. Think about that. No, there is no need for character assassinations.

I agree that he job performance provides evidence he shouldn't be Iowa's coach any more.

You're not paying attention if you haven't read character assassinations.

A hater has gotta hate.

I would suggest everyone read Patrick Vint's article "That's Football" you'll see exactly why he does what he does and why he will never change. We can expect more 7-5 to 4-8 type seasons for the remainder of his excrutiating duration as Head BAll Coach at Iowa. It's sad, frustrating and objectionable....and so is BARTA.

Was in IC today, and saw CJ at Bruegger's. We did not speak but am pretty sure he gave me the look that said, "I will play Jan 2, and I will win this one for Hawkeyenation". He at least has good taste in food.
