Harbaugh coached in the Pac 12, not the Big 10, and was regarded as the top coach in his conference. He inherited a 1-11 Stanford team and in 3 years had them finish ranked #4 in the final AP poll despite their stringent academic requirements. Rather than squeeze every dime out of his AD and get a lifetime contract following his success like Ferentz, he moved on to the NFL, where he brought his team to the title game 3 years in a row, making him one of the top coaches in the NFL.
But you are right, he has zero big 10 coach of the year awards. Ron Zook (coach of the year in 2007) and Brady Hoke (coach of the year in 2011) clearly are superior coaches to Harbaugh. smh
