Basketball Portal Question?

Are schools able to pay players out of their athletics budget or does it have to come from NIL and collectives?
Not yet, the law has passed and schools are going to have to pay players a portion of their total revenue. There are smaller issues, like scholarship limits, roster limits etc. that are delaying the full implementation of this. But it's going to happen, schools are already planning ahead with it in mind and it will happen likely heading into this years football/basketball seasons.

If a kid is going to get $500,000 or more to play basketball then they can pay their own way through college. That was not the thought process behind giving out schollarships.

It’s also garbage to not make people not pay their student loans. A lot of people never went to college simply because they couldn’t afford it. So why should people who are going to get the higher paying jobs over people who couldn’t afford to go to college, then get their education for free?

That’s a bunch of shit. The last two generations want everything given to them.

Agree. Treat them like professional athletes. These are just minor league professional teams sponsored by schools. Split off professional football and basketball programs and make them 100% self-fund.

Thanks for your opinions.

Depends if the House settlement gets finalized. The plan is for direct payments from the schools, with heavier scrutiny over collectives to make sure that money outside the schools is true NIL and not pay for play. I question whether the settlement will hold up upon appeal and/or be challenged in other courts as anticompetitive. We shall see. Right now, schools are planning on starting to pay players directly starting next calendar season.
