Today's O/U is combined points and rebounds out of the 5 spot. It was the question with the biggest question mark coming into the season, and with Brommer's injury it might be more cloudy now than it was a few months ago.

I'm going to set the number at 22.5 which is a bit of a step up from what we've seen in the past. What do you guys think, do we get 23 or more pts+reb or 22 or less?

I'll take the over. The wildcard here might be white and how many minutes he gets. If we go small and he gets any serious run here I think he can put up some numbers. He's far more skilled than anyone else we've had in that position in quite a while.

It might help to set the parameters of what constitutes the "5 spot".

If we go with a 3-forward line-up, is there a "5 spot" in there at that time? If we have two guys that normally play the "5 spot" on the floor at the same time, are they both considered "5 spotters" at that time? If not, how do we know which one is the "5 spot"?

Perhaps a defined list of players would be better.

The five is the five. It might be white or basabe sometimes, but I'm guessing we won't have two of the three gabe, Brommer, Archie on the floor often if at all.

Oh, the five is the five, now I get it.

I'm not trying to be cryptic here. The majority of the time we will have either Brommer, Archie, or Gabe in the game. When they are in they will be the five. Rarely (if ever) will we see two of those three in the game at the same time.

There may be few occasions when White is in the game with some combination of Basabe, McCabe, May, Marble, Gatens, Cartwright, and Oglseby. In that instance White will be playing the five. There may be fewer occasions in which Basabe will be at the five.

So yes, the five is the five, and we will always have one out there.

My guess...

Archie: 1.5/1 (injuries or Gabe's play have him on bench)
Gabe: 3/3
Brommer: 7/5
White/Basabe (only while they play 5 which won't be often): 2/1.5

So I guess that has me at 24 which is barely over. Gatens and May will be 2nd/3rd in reb on the team. Also, I think alot depends on if Coach Fran goes 10 deep in the rotation or keeps it at 8 player rotation as well.

I could easily see a smaller lineup with two "fours" on the posts, depending on opposing teams lineups, and particularly given the foul trouble that our "fives" get into.

I'm not trying to be jerk, but if we have times when the "true" fives are replaced by "true" fours or if there are two "true" fives on the court at the same time, I think there is a chance that we won't be able to determine which side of the over/under wins unless somebody is monitoring who is at the five position each second of the game. 'dats all bro, not trying to stick it to you.

That's the thing, even if we go small there will still be a designated 5, and it will new pretty easy to figure out who it is.

Under

Unless white can average 4 and 4 or something like that. Archie is a lock for 2 and 2 and Brommer will average less than 10 combined. Brommer being hurt has made everyone forget he isnt very good

OK. Will you be tracking points and rebounds for the designated 5 if Iowa goes with a small lineup? You won't be able to do it by looking at a box score.

Boom! This ^^^

Might be easier to just use existing numbers with Archie, Olaseni, and Brommer so a quick perusal of the box score is all that will be required...
