Basketball Mailbag - send me some questions

No offense, but who are you? What are your credentials to be asking for questions and posting a blog?
Well... I've been writing basketball articles on this site (and the old Hawkeyenation) for awhile now, anything penned by Justin VanLaere is me, so I'm not sure how you want me to answer that.

Do you need to know if I have media credentials, if I had any sort of journalism education in college, or followed the Hawkeyes since I was a toddler? If so, then the answer is yes.

Not sure what you are looking for from me for credentials...

Stormin, were you surprised last night when OSU went on the 16-0 run and Mac didn't call a time out? I had just talked to my son about the fact that he seems to use his TO very well and then he didn't. Also, now that they are starting to jell, how many B10 wins do you forcast?

I won't speak for Spank, but it seems like Fran is more content to let his guys figure it out as opposed to calling a TO and chewing someone. Personally, seeing a coach who doesn't call timeout at say...16:05 on the game clock is somewhat refreshing. Lickliter would use a timeout if someone missed an assignment on defense; it seems like Fran is more likely to wait until the next dead ball and just make a substitution.

Maybe this will get answered at some point.

We're all well aware that Fran brings with him an uptempo style. Is his plan to extend this to the defensive side of the ball as well? It seems like we currently employ a full-court press about as often as any other non-pressing team in college basketball.

Also, will we at some point become a ball pressure team in the half court like Purdue? I've been wondering if he's just waiting for the right personnel or if the current defensive style is what we can expect.

I love Frans style and he calls timeouts at the right time. He does let the players play, but I think that after you let them run off 10-12 its time to slow down their momentum. I am not knocking Fran, my point was that I was just surprised that he let it go so long. I am 100% satisfied with this coach and team and the direction they are moving.

Very nice job Spank, specifically nice job matching the pulse ot HN with the funny stuff.

But I still want to know how the hell the goat got up there.
