Basketball Content for this Fall/Winter - IDEAS

There are some ideas we have for content for basketball, but I want to hear from you all on what you might want.

Obviously due to my proximity to Carver, I cannot attend all games, but I try to provide as much content as possible during the season. And, as this isn't my job, it's all done on my own time.

If there is anything you'd like to see for the upcoming season, please let us know. Not saying we can or will do it, but I am always interested in what fans want for information, multimedia, etc...

I wouldn't mind seeing some updates on where the teams stands on some of the "advanced metrics" like what you see at Ken Pomeroy's website. Many of these stats won't mean much until B1G play starts but they are pretty revealing of team strength/weakness once teams play real competition a few times.

Also since the rotation should be larger this year, I wonder how +/- data on the players might look. Again skewed early in the season but later on it might be a telling statistic to report on once a week.

And of course some careful analysis of where postseason hopes are situated will always be appreciated in Feb/March, the non-homer view preferred.

Hopefully this kind of stuff could work without being in CHA much to watch games. Thanks for doing this on your own time, we all appreciate it.

I'd like to see sideline reporting from Stormin from all games.

Maybe an inside look at huddles during timeouts. Oh wait, Diesel doesn't like cursing. ****.

IN all honesty though - how about once the B1G season starts a weekly series, what Iowa has to do to make the NCAA tournament from there on out...
 


I think we're going to have to have some Faceoff time for the vids..would be good to come up with some sort of mailbag series, where we hit each other with questions or comments from users, trying to get the other off guard.

This. I'm pretty sure stormin has crazier suits then Craig Saeger
 


I saw someone mention stats. An interesting stat to me would be a final 10 or 5. Showing average minutes for each player in the final 10/5 minutes of a game. In close games that would be interesting to see the further into the year we get. Who steps up vs who fades away in the final ticks. Including the regular stats over that time would be interesting if possible.

This is an excellent idea. Maybe a permanent back-o-meter that could stay at the top of the page and show the up to the minute "we're back" readings which could vary due to wins, losses, recruit commits, etc.
 


i would like Jon to reinstall herby and have him face ghost and talk about the game. That was riot.I wish for a smiley that pull down his pant and wiggle his azz or a smiley with wreestling uniforms .

I think before every game Stormin must put down his top ten favorite beers in one hour and then have a live play by play that all of HN can listen to.
 


The +/- or charting was something I recall from HS and proved to be an interesting gauge as the season went on. I don't recall the exact values but something along the lines of:
+2 steal / -2 turnover
+1 offensive rebound / +2 defensive rebound to emphasize defense
+1 made free throw / -1 missed
+3 taking a charge
+2 blocked shots
