Basabe vs White

Where there is smoke there is usually fire. Right? How many posts, blogs, and comments from players does one need top hear and read to finally realize there are "issues" with Basabe? NOBODY is taking anything away from what the kid accomplished last year, however, two key words..."last year". He has dogged it in practice, he's dogged it in what one could call "easy / cupcake" nonconference games, now...he's dogged it during a HUGE game vs a very, very good Creighton team. I don't wanna hear it was because of foul trouble. Cmon folks, something is wrong between his ears as it's painfully obviously his effort, focus, and attitude just aint where they need to be. It wouldnt be Fran's worst coaching decision if he started White in the very near future in an effort to attempt to wake Basabe up. Not to mention, I think White has the potential to bring just as much, if not more, to the table as Basabe has and will.

I agree. Watching him yesterday in warm ups it annoys me that he's not wearing the same shirt as everyone else (very small issue). I think, he thinks he's better than what he is. He had a good year last year, but his #'s are going to be down this year because we MIGHT actually have some depth. I hope I'm wrong about him because I want him to stay a Hawk.

I agree something doesn't seem right with him. It appears he is very full of himself. I guess it's a wait and see on what the coach does with this situation. I suggest a no start next game. perhaps that will wake him up.

Basabe never seems to be going 100% or trying his hardest. I watch him going up and down the court and he doesn't look to be running real hard. Lazy is the word that comes to mind. He's a really good player but I don't see him as a guy that will get you 20 and 10 on a consistant night because he takes plays off. Hopefully he can turn it around and prove me wrong.

I noticed the same thing as well and yes it is a minor issue but I also noticed he was the only one that had ear plugs in as well listening to music.

To me he seemed like he thought he is better than everyone else and will do what he wants and didn't look interested in warming up. He was half a$$ing it when they went into their stretching warmups as well and didn't look interested in even doing those. And while I haven't seen a practice it wouldn't surprise me if the OP is right in saying he has heard that Basabe is dogging it in practice.

I was sitting directly above the tunnel that led to the Iowa locker room and after the game as the team went back in someone next to me yelled at Basabe saying "Let's get it going Basabe, we need you!" Mel looked up at him and rolled his eyes.

McCabe will start at pf before White, and McCabe brings a outside shot as well AND he has a year under his belt, with that he is more familiar with the team
Basabe 6'7 no outside shot
McCabe 6'7 outside shot and the weight to bang inside = a better matchup problem

He's probably just waiting for the NBA lockout to lift so he can bolt and start getting paid.

Aaron White over Basabe? Really Hawkeye fans? Aaron White is AWFUL. Did we watch the same game yesterday? Wait until he plays in the Big 10. They'll destroy him. Basabe has things you can't teach. Size and athletic ability.

It really doesn't matter until we get somebody who can fill what Jarryd Cole meant to these guys last year. I'm holding out some hope that Brommer comes back fully healthy and is as improved as the coaches have been saying. Archie is just not strong or talented enough to play at center. Help is on the way though. Woodbury and Meyer will provide much needed size and depth for this team. Unfortunately, it may take a year or two for them to get acclimated to major-college basketball.

Do you have ANY evidence that Mel has dogged it in practice, or are you just talking out your *** (I think I know the answer to that one)? Give the kid a freaking break. We are four games into the season. I have a strong suspicion he is going to make all you people dogging on him look like idiots as the season goes on. If he doesn't turn things around, I will be more than willing to say I was wrong.

And kind of off topic, but when you played crappy teams in high school, you are going to claim to have given 110 percent every second you were in there? I doubt it.

White is very very slow. I know he is a freshman but he looked completely lost yesterday.

Yep and thats why i'd rather see Olaseni in there. Both are freshmen and lost but Olaseni could be a player in a year or two while White is JR Angle

White is going to be very good. His game is strange, scoop shots and the like, but he can put it on the floor, shoot and pass.
