Pre-game radio mentioned he was back down to about 225 lbs from the 235 the coaching staff had asked him to bulk up to before the season and he did appear to be getting up and down the floor a little better but still looked winded a few times. Coach Fran also mentioned on the radio that the added weight doesn't work for some guys and Mel appears to be one of them so they are trying to get him back down to the 215/220 he played at nearly all of last season.

Not sure how the staff didn't see that Basabe was dragging a** in practice before the season started. Chalk it up to a bad experiment, but we desperately need Basabe to return to form physically and mentally.

yeah he had 2 more points then you and I had. Can't believe his performance this year very poor.
He may find his a$$ on the bench when Meyer and Woodbury come to town

Iowa is very dependent on Basabe this year. Iowa needs Basabe to play at least at a similar level to last year. At least it appears that Fran has recognized a major problem for Basabe. By B1G conference play Basabe should be playing at a higher level, which is exactly when Iowa needs him the most.
Combine Basabe with Woodbury and a White that has one season under his belt and we will see the real Basabe. No team will be able to double team him.
So we need to just be patient...Fran is doing the best he can right now with he players he has. We all were hoping for a better season this year but it might not be here yet...
