Congrats to Basabe, he needed 7 pts tonight; he surpassed it with 16 pts and 10 rebounds. On to OSU Sunday! Go Hawks!

Basabe played with intensity on both ends of the floor. Iowa is a different team when he shows up mentally and physically. Granted, it was NW, and I hope we don't get the other Basabe on Sunday, as his athleticism will be sorely needed against OSU. He has certainly been much more consistent this year than the last two.

That's 3 on the team along with White and Marble. I'm guessing Uthoff and Gesell will get there before they are done. Jok and Woodbury could but it's way too early to say so with confidence. I wonder when Iowa last had 5 (or more) eventual 1,000 scorers on the same team. I have to think one of Mr. Davis's teams did. Anyone have any idea?

There were a few years when Iowa had 4 on the same court. In 1988 in Jeff Moe's senior year they would have had Armstrong, Marble, Horton, and Moe on the court at the same time (1986 to 1988). In 1989 James Moses would have been a freshman playing with the same group (minus Moe).

I think there was 4 on the 1980 team as well. Lester, Boyle, Hansen, and Arnold were all on that team. Then Lester graduates and Carfino was a freshman on the 1981 team.

Found it, 1982 had 6 on the same team.

Greg Stokes (freshman)
Kevin Boyle (Senior)
Bobby Hansen (Junior)
Michael Payne (Freshman)
Kenny Arnold (Senior)
Steve Carfino (Sophomore)

Windsor, you might be right as this years team could end up with as many as 6 thousand point scorers before it is all said and done. Gesell should easily get there, Uthoff will have to do it in 3 years but he is off to a good start, Woodbury has an outside shot at it, and Jok could get there.

Thanks for the info Kelley. I figured it would be a Tom Davis team but that's all Lute...and a pretty good team. White made it earlier this season (3rd year) and I expect Uthoff to be able to match White's scoring in his 3 years so I think he's in good shape as long as he stays healthy. Five seems like a safe bet with 7 being the ceiling.

Marbles record will be a tough one to break but White has a good shot at ending up being #2 on the all time scorer list.

I got a chuckle out of Basabe's interview with Dolph and Bobby last night. He enjoyed his points going to the 1,000 mark, but wanted to talk more about his rebounding. He asked Dolph who was just above him on the list and its Don Nelson. Not sure, but I don't think Mel knew who Nelson was. Anyway, Mel thinks he can move ahead of Nelson on the list and he told Dolph and Bobby to hold him to that. What a kid. We can be very proud that he is a Hawkeye!

He has both improved his skills and matured...played some great defense on Decker and didn't worry about scoring. This is a testament to both Mel and his coaches. Something tells me they had something to do with his development.

Iowa is a different team when the coach doesn't forget to play him. I don't think there's really been any showing up issues since the middle of last season.
