Barta out?

1). Barta is being forced out, right? He recently said he'd keep at it "as long as they'll have me." It sounds like they will no longer have him. My take is that he didn't have the big talk yet with his boss but it was coming and he knew that and I think he's probably at the point where enough is enough. So when he says 'Its Time' it has all soaked in

3). All the scandals and lawsuits aside (which deserve their own thread), he has shown little agility or creativity when it comes to finances. The Doyle thing was avoidable. There was notice given by people that something had to change. The cancelling women's sports thing was avoidable too. Not sure the 3rd law suit was something he should be blamed for.

If I were to succeed Gary, the very first thing I'd do, which would be easy, is to rescind that 24 points per game provision from Brian's contract.
I definitely would eliminate that mind-numbing clause that allows defensive points scored to be included in the calculation. That's frankly ridiculous (but, then again, so is Kirk's low bar of 8 wins....).

Also, if we are talking about having any "points scored" incentive at all, it makes much more sense to use points-per-possession.

Did Kirk have an 8 win bogie?

Curious where you placed that bet. I don't see anything in the Elite Sportsbook app.

It looks like DraftKings has that numer for Iowa over/under.

That seems like easy money. Iowa has hit the over in season wins for 6 years in a row. They just barely got there last year, but I think Iowa's season shook out in worst-case-scenario fashion (losses to ISU, Illinois, and Nebraska) and they still beat that number. This year their schedule is more favorable, their offense can't be worse (I keep saying that, and they keep proving me wrong), and their other 2 units should be as stout as usual. 7.5 wins seems like a gift.

So, just make shit up?

Kelly's salary is over 8k, he left for bigger pay day, Kirk didn't.
Kyle Whittingham coaches at a much smaller school in an even weaker conference.
Mike Gundy makes 7.5+
Kris Klieman, the KST coach, is who I assume you mean, is on his first contract with the school and after the past few seasons, he's in line to make much more than Kirk Ferentz and I'll eat my shoe if his next contract isn't much higher than what Kirk has gotten.

Barta made an unpopular deal with the fans that has actually played out very well for Iowa in hindsight, if you don't see that, you're just biased.

at least do some research, it's all I ask
He won't. He never does. He just judges a narrative in his mind, doesn't bother to check facts or trends, then whines that the '80's are never coming back.

It's all he does. Post after post after post after post after post.

Yeah as long as Cade doesn't get hurt and half the team isn't suspended all yr for the gambling stuff. Getting to 9 wins seems like a given let alone 8. Hell if they somehow knock off PSU (I'm not predicting that) then the sky is the limit frankly.

In his defense, being AD at a school like Iowa or South Carolina or NC State or Arizona State is just a terrible fvcking job. You have someone in state sucking some of the air out of the room, you get measured against them, you get measured against the conference which is damned near completely unwinnable for those programs in football and hoops and then you get people who legitimately expect hardware that just ain't gonna show up. You get some flirtation with success and nobody says "hey, great job" they get pissed that they didn't get more.

I know I'm bumping this thread for a somewhat unrelated reason. I can't remember if I posted it here or not.

But I once sorted some data of "population rate to FBS roster spots". Might have even posted it here. It was basically Montana and or Wyoming at the top. Maybe Utah. Then Iowa.

The only ones in striking distance to Iowa was like Kansas and Indiana (excluding Notre Dame, cause, not fair).

Having two FBS teams in a state of just ~3 million? I'd say Iowa athletics has more than punched well above it's weight class. In all sports. Men and women.

Oh, I totally agree. I moved to the deep south 5 years ago and live in a place that's basically a clone of Neck Moines but in the foothills of the mountains. Clemson is 45 minutes up the road. Living here made me surrender any and all expectations for Iowa sports. Not only is Iowa way behind the 8 ball on population and having to split the talent among two in-state schools (only Kansas is worse in that regard), but the population centers in the Midwest just aren't talent rich anymore. You have a lot of schools trying to feed off Chicagoland (Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Notre Dame, Indiana and MSU at a minimum) and there just aren't enough good kids to fill out rosters anymore. But Clemson is like 90 minutes from Atlanta, which has 5x the talent of Chicagoland now and a full on system of pushing kids through winter and spring camps from the time they're in 7th or 8th grade. And Clemson can easily draw from Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina.

Iowa has done great all things considered. By all accounts we should be light years behind Wisconsin and Minnesota. Ferentz has done a great job and odds are we will totally suck when he leaves.

We will never be able to out recruit schools in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Bama and Florida. It just ain't gonna happen. But despite our shortcomings, man, the coaching staff has done a good job fielding cohesive teams and prepping guys with solid fundamentals (something lacking in the southern teams by and large). Sure, we have gaps, but I'm amazed with what they have accomplished.

She's the front runner and has a great background in handling PR blunders way the F better than Iowa. Likely why she was hired
My boss is a fairly sizeable donor to the program and his farming corporation (separate entity) is as well. Talking to him Goetz is a very pro-NIL person and basically the exact opposite of Barta in that regard. She's chomping at the bit to work with collectives and The Swarm...she wants to make a splash.

His exact quote when we were chatting was, "It wasn't a coincidence when she got hired. That was done with future plans in mind."

I also got the serious vibe that "retiring" probably wasn't Farta's own idea. Most people don't realize how much influence really huge donors at large P5 programs have. They think it's just the administration at the school finding these people and making the decisions themselves and it couldn't be farther from the truth.

So, does your boss think this means a tighter leash on Brian?

You know when Hayden was hired no one gave Iowa a chance in hell of ever playing in a rose bowl………. Not even the most diehard Iowa fan could have conceived it would happen in three years after Hayden was hired.…….. no one.

I would agree that under the current leadership you have a point. How pathetic is it to have to go back nineteen years under the current regime. Nineteen years. Name one power five school that has ever put up with it that has the money, facilities, and fans support that Iowa has? People fear change and would rather sit cemented in the known then expand out of comfort zones.

In basketball Lickliter didn’t help things. Yet a few years down the road and Fran has us back to at least a Tom Davis level, which would even be exceeded if Fran ever figures out how to recruit and coach good enough to do well in the NCAA tournament.

Sure we may go though a similar situation when Kirk leaves, but they say history has a tendency to repeat itself. We will be ok, but it may take time, but then again it might not take much time at all.

However looking over our shoulder at Nebraska gives reason to pause.

It’s going to happen regardless of how people feel about it, Kirk isn’t immortal. It’s just a matter of when. If Parker stays on as a defensive coordinator we will be fine……… if not in a much better situation. Nearly last in offense last year. seriously? Honestly could it be worse? If Parker stays around the answer to that question is HELL NO!!!

With 50 million of TV money from the big why can't we hire an already performing coach. We do not have to go down a tier for a new coach. And what coach would not want Parker to run his defense. With better recruiting Parker could even improve.

Well, when you get pressure from the state Auditor to make a move, it’s something they could no longer bury their head about. The NIL resistance combined with past issues, it was time. This definitely wasn’t Gar’s decision

Did the research fully. Would post it all over again. And this was a token search so there would most definitely be more. Quit acting like Ferentz is the only coach in America that can coach Iowa football. If you really believe that then you need help

I am not acting like that, my original post is Iowa has gotten Kirk for a song considering the results and success they've had on the field. That's accurate when you look at his peers, what they make and what results they've produced.

Quit acting like KF isn't one the best college coaches in the game, cause if you don't think that, you need help.

$ makes the world go around always has. It felt like the most recent lawsuit was the last straw for him. The school just went about getting rid of him in the best PR way they could. Instead of just out right firing him they brought her in like last Sept I think with all this in mind. At least that's my read on things.
