bars on gameday

I do not have a ticket for saturday's game but I would love to soak up some Melrose tailgating before kickoff. I will be heading to the downtown bars and was wondering which bars are best to watch the Hawkeye game? What time should I plan on getting there to find a seat.

Well, you didn't give your age, but the Airliner is tops for Hawkeye tradition! Get there earlier enough to get a seat near, on at the window, so you can see the tvs and the locals stroll past outside. Good times.:D
 
Honestly, if I was expecting to have a table at the airliner I'd get there at 10:30. But I'm a planner.

I think you'll have trouble if you're any later than an hour before game time.

This is a great place to go and the food is really good.
 
still looking for a time to get to the bar. will 2 hours before game time be enough to seat 8 people?

I'd probably get to where you're going around 11 or so. It is a complete chit show downtown during gamedays, especially the ISU game.

No. I would guess most will show up around 11, noon at the very latest eat lunch and won't leave until the game is over.

For 8? I wouldn't get there after 11.
 
Good bars downtown Iowa City to watch the game - Summit ($5 cover gets you unlimited wings) Brothers (best bar in IC, it's corporate structured unlike most bars in Iowa City) Another good spot I've discovered is Share, the lounge inside Sheraton. $3 well drinks and $4 burgers, there's a table setup with all the fixings.
