Barry Alvarez just said Paul Chryst will stay at Pitt

I don't think Rhodes is about the money, but surely he understands what happened to McCarney. Rhodes hasn't had the 9 win season McCarney had yet. Pollard shamelessly escorted McCarney to the door, despite everything McCarney did for the school. The same McCarney that some speculate turned down a chance to coach TCU after the 9-3 season. Point being Rhodes surely understands as I am sure most coaches do: you are one bad season from going from hero to goat, so you better strike while the iron is hot. What happens to Rhodes 3 years from now if he goes 7-5, 6-6, 6-6? Is he still as beloved, or his he getting heat for not getting to the "next level'? I think it's the latter.

Who is this Rhodes you speak of?

It may be for now, but it sure seems that if Rhoads is seen as building a "real" program then an annual .500 record isn't going to keep him off any sort of hot seat...
The reason .500 at ISU is not bad is because the schedule is so tough, not because the expectations are different. You may have misunderstood what I meant.

You obviously don't know Rhoads either. The guy will leave for the right job, he won't leave for just any job, but he will leave for the right job. The guy is a competitor, and wants to be on the biggest stage, and sorry to say, that isn't at ISU. He will leave for the right opportunity, no matter what you think.
I didn't say ever Vogs. He will not be moving in the next few years. In another 4 years or so, all bets are off.

PappyT, are you into the scotch again tonight? Don't get all chippy, fella, or we'll send you to bed without your Ensure.

You don't labor away at ISU for 8 years putting up a .500 record year in and year out and get a "big" opportunity then. Right now getting ISU to .500 over the last couple years looks like a good accomplishment......keeping them at .500 for 8 years proves you can't advance the program. If he wants to move up, he will need to do it in the next couple years.

Nah, he finally has all of his own recruits in the system and he is working his plan. I would expect a few 6 or 7 win years followed by 8,9,or 10 win seasons. The foundation is in place now. He is not going anywhere. Why didn't Hayden Fry leave Iowa after he had success? Answer that and you will know why Rhoads will stay at ISU.

LOL you really believe ISU is going to eventually being reeling off 9 and 10 win seasons? Is that after the B12 falls apart and they join the MWC?

Fry did at Iowa after horrible decades of football. Will it be difficult in the B12? Yes, of course it will be. This is the fatal flaw of the run of the mill bandwagon hawk fan. They demonstrate ignorance and arrogance all at the same time, which is quite amusing to other fanbases.

Right. ISU has always been a punchline, but because of paul "dusty" roads the team is now a legit BCS contender (despite actual evidence to the contrary).
But it is the dreaded Hokk Fan that is ignorant and arrogant.
Way to keep it real, dooshclown.

I doubt you are old enough to remember what hawkeye football was like prior to Hayden Fry. Go look it up and you will see how bad football in Iowa City was. It is fairly obvious that you don't have much of a clue. Were you in the 8-4, 9-3, or the infamous 10-2 crowd for the hawks record this year? You don't appear to recognize what a program looks like that is headed in the right direction.
