Just watched replay after work, Iowa literally has one of the worst offensive lines I have ever seen. Petras is not the problem, how he goes back to the huddle play after play and doesn’t “lose it” at his OL for all the whiffs, missed blocking assignments, and their general confusion is amazing. He took a beating and didn’t point fingers or complain. I’m really starting to respect the guy.

No, Levar Woods.

No targeting on Campbell

No running into the kicker

Linemen downfield on crucial pass to LaPorta.

I will take it. After Pottebaum "fumble" and Moss return overturned vs Illinois we had some karma coming.

Also, Braylon Allen looked dinged up. A healthy Allen beats Merriweather to the corner on that second and eight from the three yard kine and might still be running.

Why would we not field that punt??????
The punt fielding or no fielding isn’t on the players, it’s on Kirk and Brain.

Players are told what circumstances to field punts or let them drop depending on field position, score, coverage, etc. Kirk happens to be all the way over to the conservative side of those decisions. The players are just doing what they’re told…the only time you hear about it is when they don’t and something bad happens (Shaun Beyer, WI 2018).

I’m rewatching on tv this morning and there were a few questionable late hits on receivers after incompletions by the Iowa D. None of them were brain rattlers but we were on the edge all game, which usually it’s Wisky doing that so they can’t complain too much.

And out for the first half of Minnesota.

Both Campbell and Herbig got away with targeting in the 2nd half. How both of those were missed is hard to understand. Especially since many less severe hits are called penalties and reviewed for targeting during the season.

On the flip side, I think this ref crew actually allowed both teams to play. Made it about the players and not themselves.

In summary, yesterdays crew was better than any other I've seen this year.

I know Mertz isn’t exactly great when he is healthy, but he looked dinged up most of the game. My man was throwing some ducks out there. FWIW, he does have a pretty live arm, other than the TD pass it really wasn’t yesterday.

Let's be fair. Mertz also took a lot of hits and sacks. Sure, sometimes he had time. But when the defense wanted to get at him, they could almost at will. And they picked him off twice. Both offenses were just way over matched.

And this isn't the first time Iowa has shutdown a quality rubningback. If they do the same next week, there is a small chance of victory.

Badger Homer?

I like listening to opponent broadcasts. They mentioned Campbell's be about as close to it and not get flagged. The announcers seem quite professional. Also enjoy Purdue, NW, MN s announcers. PSU pretty good too.

I’ll be honest, I was shocked it wasn’t called. I was also surprised at the no running into the kicker call as well.

Badger Homer?
Watched it with about a dozen Badger Homer's. I was the only Iowa fan in the house.

Better than last year when we watched at Buckingham's in Madison and I promised to do a shot each time Wisconsin scored a touchdown.

Not a good day, especially when IKM fumbled on our goal line.

BTW, Buckingham's is supposed to be closing. It is actually closer to the Kohl center than to Camp Randall so it was a good hangout for basketball games as well, both college and high school state tournament.

I feel your pain here in Illini country.

Matt Lepay is a pro's pro. He is well respected.

Dolph is OK for football, not so much for basketball, Jim Albrecht is better at both. That was true in 1980 when both did Dubuque high school sports and its true today.

We shut Minnesota's running back down and we have more than a small chance at victory. He is their version of Shonn Greene. Without looking I'll bet he leads the league in rushing yards or is very close.

If you are talking about the screen pass, the throw was behind the line of scrimmage so the lineman are allowed to block downfield. The refs also missed a targeting for Iowa late in the game.
