I knew I'd be peeing into the wind with this because the Ferentz lynch mob would not like it. That's ok.
Be thankful for that "lynch mob", after all this forum would be boring if we all had the same opinions.

And can we keep the quote: "I don't think we'll see another 4-8 season out of a Ferentz-led Iowa team" pinned to the top of the board?
That's GOLD Jerry, GOLD!
Utah might not have been in a "major conference," but they played in a BCS bowl while he was there. Major conference experience is overrated. Gery DiNardo has tons of major conference experience. I'd rather have the young up and comer than the proven loser.
If it is a disaster hire, it will be because Anderson's offensive scheme doesn't fit, or he doesn't recruit well outside of Utah, or something like that. Not because he hasn't had experience in the SEC, B10, Pac10, or B12.
Besides, the fate of Wisky has always and still does rest in the hand of Barry.
Anderson may do fine. However, at Iowa every head coach in football and basketball that was hired with no BCS school experience as an assistant or head coach has been a collossal failure:
Bob Commings
Frank Lauterbur
Steve Alford
Todd Lickliter
That was great when Utah State beat Bama in the Sugar Bowl, and let's not forget Utah State's impressive win over Pitt back in the Fiesta Bowl. Hey, Utah State even produced Urban Meyer! And, he did coach in a major conference, Utah State joined the Pac 12 last year.
....Of course, the potential fly in the ointment of the whole thing is exactly what did us in the last time, which is beauracratic incompetence. I have absolutely ZERO confidence in Gary Barta making any decision for the University of Iowa beyond what to charge for parking passes next year. This, more than anything, is what should give Iowa fans pause as they consider whether or not a change should be made.

Regardless of how the Kirk Ferentz era will end (it probably will not be pretty) Garta is in way over his head and aside from the p8ssing match that ensued over JD's article this should be one point most of us can agree on.
I absolutely cannot wait until the day comes when Iowa names KF's successor. The meltdowns on here will be epic. Im not saying its going to be a bad hire or the Hawks cant get somebody good.
Just the expectations when it comes to coaching searches on these boards are unreasonable at best.

Jon, anyone with any business or managerial experience can see that Kirk Ferentz is giving off signs he is burned out, has little passion for the game, has been phoning it in the past few years. On several occasions this year it was apparent he just didn't care. He gets his paycheck, lives in the big house, has a pretty sheltered existence in Iowa City. The Greg Davis hire was one of the worst of all time, and what's up with hiring his son without looking to see whether there were other better-qualified candidates? Kirk's refusal to adapt or to change -- whether benching an under-performing QB, finding better assistant coaches, looking elsewhere for recruits, taking a gamble on a fake punt or field goal, having an effective two-minute strategy -- has cost his program plenty in recent years.
As an Iowa fan, I simply would like the chance for the program to get better. I'm increasingly convinced that is not going to happen under Kirk Ferentz.
I think Jon's point is many Iowa fans (and probably many Wisky fans) feel that our next coaching vacancy will easily be filled by a known, successful head coaching commodity from a BCS school or at least a hot OC/DC alumnus (ie: Diaco). Not someone from Maine (KF) or Utah St (Anderson).
As did Hayden Fry.Lute Olson did OK.
I've read plenty of people posting that they want to see Ferentz gone regardless. That they don't care who Iowa gets just as long as there is change. I think that's pure stupidity. And believe me if Iowa hired to Gary Andersen? People would be furious about that.
