Thought this was going to be about Basketball.

DSJ is sitting pretty.

Big 10 was allocated 6 qualifiers at 157. It looks like Indiana's 157 pounder (Konz) didn't make weight, so there's only 11 wrestlers in the bracket. If DSJ wins ONE match period (either in the championship bracket or in wrestlebacks) he finishes no worse than 6th.

Dsj would have got into the Ncaa's regardless.

Wow how do you not make weight for the biggest tournament of the year aside from Nationals assuming you qualify when you've made that weight already this season? When were weigh ins anyway? I didn't think they could weigh in the day before.

Can someone explain to me why the #2 seed gets a bye and #8 seed gets a bye at 125# instead of #1 seed McDonough? How are byes determined in the first round?

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, I don't know if it's a definite that he'd get a wild card.

Wrestlers are evaluated based on 3 measures: 1) Coaches Poll Ranking, 2) RPI Ranking, and 3) Winning Percentage.

DSJ's resume:
14-2 Record (.875 Win Percentage)
#18 in Final Coaches Poll
UR in RPI (17 Match minimum – DSJ only had 16 matches)

The conference qualifier allocations were determined using these 3 measures. 290 of the 330 tourney berths (33 wrestlers for each of the 10 weights) are won via the conference tournaments.

After the conference tournaments, the remaining 40 spots are filled via another set of criteria. Wrestlers who didn’t get one of the automatic spots are evaluated based on the following:

- Head-to-head competition
- Conference tournament placement
- Quality wins
- Results against common opponent
- Win%
- RPI
- Coaches rank
- Number of matches at that weight class

I'm not sure if he has enough matches under his belt with regards to win%. His best win is against UNI’s David Bonin (#20 Coaches Poll, #23 RPI). He may need a bit more to hang his hat on.

Let's hope it doesn't come down to this and this whole conversation is for naught.

For weights that are only seeded 1-8, the 4 unseeded wrestlers are randomly drawn into the bracket to wrestle one of the seeded wrestlers.

This doesn't bother me for McD, this is a great chance at bonus points.

They are randomly drawn past the first 8 seeds. Honestly it would be better to wrestle early because most likely it would mean more team points with potential bonus point wins as opposed to just advancement.

Have you noticed the pigtails and first round matches for Penn State? They are going to come flying out of the gates...

Oh I've seen it, PSU has 5 first round matches where they are favored in all 5. Iowa has 4 where they are favored in 2 unless Kelly wrestles really well against Terrazas...
