Attorney: visitors' pink locker room could leave UI open to lawsuits

Just added Jill Gaulding as friends on Facebook, I will be expressing my thoughts to her. You all should do the same. No one can control the use of a color. Stupid Bit$h.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read:

“I certainly do conclude that based on all the things that we’ve been talking about and what I understand are the civil rights laws that it’s actually illegal to have a pink locker room because it’s not OK for a public institution to potentially put out a message that people perceive to be based on a sexist or homophobic slur,†she added. “It’s not OK for them to put up a banner that says it’s bad to be a girl. It’s not OK for them to build a pink locker room that conveys that same idea.â€

This would be pretty tough to prove in any legal fashion. They would somehow have to establish that the color pink conveys sexism or a homophobic notion.

Does this mean Iowa has to change the school colors as well, since it is obvious we are making fun of black people and Chinese people with our color scheme? It is going to be really hard to play any sports when the only color either team is allowed to wear is gray.

Gray wouldn't work either because then we're being disrespectful to koala bears and wolves.

funny this attorney did not cite any case law to validate her warped opinion.

JM's idea is a good one... who can think about playing football with breast cancer on your mind.

The best part about skynet taking over and dispatching terminators to kill humans in mass quantities, will mean theres no more place in the world for BS PC attitudes. Then we can string these A-holes up somewhere and use them for terminator bait, and the ultimate machine killing booby trap will be set with a bunch of pain the *** people. But I digress...

I think Houston Nutt got in some trouble at Arkansas a few years back because if a player screwed up off the field or had a bad practice, he wore a pink jersey. "You stink, you wear pink". PC crusaders and cancer awereness advocates got up his *** over that. Cancer really sucks but cancer aweness orginations don't own the color pink. Are they going to come after the Hawkeyes with a suit? Gays don't own the rainbow. Should I be offended if like rainbows, but can't wear them on a shirt because it would associtate me with being gay when I'm not? Who can sue over this? I'm freaking outraged right now!

SkyNet is really our only hope to push a huge reset button on humanity, and in the process set a bunch of traps made with humans as the ultimate bait!

1.) The international color for homosexuality is Purple

2.) The color Pink was chosen as a psychological effect for it calmingness

3.) Iowa should get a group of LBGT students that support the pink locker room

4.) The color pink isn't in the rainbow. Isn't the homosexual flag a rainbow. So they get all the colors to represent their group plus pink? Isn't it discriminating and bullyish to not allow anyone to have the color pink but the LBGT community??? Kind of hypocritical. I doubt they see the irony.

Tell them to take their lawsuit and shove it.

Wow stupid. When you break this down to its basics pink is a color and a color only. There are no ethnic or sexual slurs in this.

Heck I didnt even know they kept it pink after all the remodeling.

If they somehow make us change the color I would paint it florescent green and orange to make the opponents sick. or some blindingly white shade to wipe them out before the game

This is straight up stupid.

Like Hayden Fry was trying to send a message to girls that it's not OK to be a girl. Morons of the highest order.

Iowa should have a pink out, paint on the walls 'Breast Cancer Awareness' and cut em off at the knees.

They did when this was "news" 8 years ago. Fans wore pink to a lot of games that year. Not sure why everyone is listening this time around.

Bingo! Look at what they are doing to christians. They had a little conference at prairie meadows yesterday and had classes on how to put down conservatives and bash christians who disagree w/ same sex marriage. I thought the LGBT community was suppose to be soooooo understanding?

This is easy enough to address. The University of Iowa supports breast cancer awareness. I'm sure the PC crowd would be ok with that, right?

PR judo. Love it.

,

LOL. They're trying to outlaw the color pink? C'mon. As a liberal and someone who believes in civil rights this is still one of the dumbest things i've ever read. If i could say something to this woman I would say please try to use your energy more productively, lady, and don't spend your time worrying about stupid **** or life will pass you by.

Also make me a sandwich woman:cool:

On another note, I think it is interesting that every instance of discrimination against gays is labeled "homophobia." We don't call sexism "femaphobia" or racism "Afrophobia " or perhaps "Latinophobia."

Now, when people say they don't want to take showers in the locker room with someone who might be attracted to them, that is "homophobia." But how is that different than someone who reacts out of fear when they encounter someone from another race? But we don 't use fear term in this instance.

The ism suffix is commonly used to indicate an ideology based on superiority. Well, when someone reacts out of fear when encountering someone from another group, they mark the other group as having the power to harm, hence the phobia suffix is appropriate. But when someone has simply marked another group as deficient then the ism suffix would seem more appropriate.

It's not an issue of political correctness, but specificity. Having people be clear about why they react to others differently in certain situations may help us be more thoughtful in our actions and understandings. What would happen if we just asked ourselves when we met someone and had an urge to treat that person with disdain, "Do I feel this way because I feel superior or am I afraid, or perhaps both?

This is a great idea, on multiple levels. There's the reason you mentioned. Then, it would bring some good media attention and raise money for breast cancer. Third, a lot of women (I'm thinking of my wife here) need very few excuses to buy more pink attire. I can see a lot of pink hawkeye stuff being worn (and bought).
