Attorney: visitors' pink locker room could leave UI open to lawsuits

The other day, my wife gave my son some water in a pink cup because it was the only one left clean. My son told her that he wasn't going to drink it. When asked "why?" by my wife, he told her that it was in a pink cup and pink was for girls.

I praised him.

So basically the color pink should just be outlawed and not allowed to be worn or used by anyone. If girls are wearing it, it is demeaning to them since it just reinforces gender stereotypes.

I never liked the pink locker room idea. I think it's an embarrassment to the U of I. Change it now before it becomes an even bigger issue.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read:

“I certainly do conclude that based on all the things that we’ve been talking about and what I understand are the civil rights laws that it’s actually illegal to have a pink locker room because it’s not OK for a public institution to potentially put out a message that people perceive to be based on a sexist or homophobic slur,†she added. “It’s not OK for them to put up a banner that says it’s bad to be a girl. It’s not OK for them to build a pink locker room that conveys that same idea.â€

She seriously thinks a public institution can't "potentially" put out a message that people "perceive" to be "based on" something homophobic or sexist? Does she realize that the standard of the terms "potentially", "perceive", and "based on" make that basically impossible? I mean, if that is the standard, then the public institution should shut its doors because literally anything can "potentially" be "perceived" to be "based on" sexism or homophobia. Literally anything.

this is what happens when liberals speak. our society has become so overrun with "ooo, lets not hurt anybody's feelings, lets not make anybody uncomfortable, everyone should be given everything to make it fair."

we have had that society and look where it's gotten us. you can't do anything anymore otherwise you have offended someone.

I agree with Jon, we shoul do a pink out, isn't breast cancer awareness month in october? give a dollar of ticket sales to breast cancer research. Boom, problem solved.

The University of Iowa, which led the charge for Title IX, thinks it's not okay to be a girl. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

The people that actually have reasons to be offended should be offended that people even consider something like this worthy of even being talked about.

You know, I find it pretty sexist that these groups associate pink with women. I think the university should sue them.

Jill Gaulding tried this in 2005 too and left the university over it.

Her arguement is laughable and the University should ignore her silly claims.

Sorry, but since the letter is in blue and blue is a boy color it discriminates against girls.

Exactly. You can make ANYTHING say ANYTHING that you want it to, if you are creative enough. Some people literally go out of their way to be offended.

How did our society get so stupid? Actually, I'm not sure if it's even the majority of society that really is like this - but it's the vocal minority that seems to scream (or whine) the loudest, and it's usually the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, as they say. The rest of us need to scream even louder and tell people like this to just STFU and go away.

Man people can be stupid. Crazy leftist lady with nothing to do but ***** about a problem that is irrelevant to her.

Here's what I'd do. Issue a press release that says if this woman or her organization files a lawsuit, that after the State/UI prevails, they will sue her and her little group for all of the fees and costs they incurred in order to recoup the taxpayers' money for defending against this nonsense. And do nothing more. Stop giving these people a platform for their fringe views, it detracts from the legitimate discussion.
