Athlon Sports pre-season All-Conference Teams

Good find, I hadn't seen that one.
Funny thing is I'm pretty sure I have seen some of those names on the "under performers" list (Iowa didn't have any on that list) I saw.
Really it's just a bunch of hooey, but it is fun to read opinions and something to talk about.

Wisconsin with 4 of 1st team OL spots. Damn, I hope that doesn't turn out true. Kinda frustrating that each of one of Wisconsin's starting OL probably had a better season than Daniels. But Iowa loses Daniels early in the draft.

As expected, not a lot of love for the Hawks.

My prediction right now is that Amani Hooker, Wirfs and Jackson will get recognition, and it will be interesting to see how the QB battle in the B1G plays out.

My picks for recognition would be, Noah Fant, Anthony Nelson, Tristan Wirfs and A.J. Epenesa. I think Nathan Stanley, Alaric Jackson, Miguel Recinos and Amani Hooker have a decent shot.

At least we replace Daniels with 3rd Team All B1G Keegan Render!

Render may have an outside shot. It's difficult to say how much Render progressed last season, given how much of the mess the line was with two starting tackles out. We'll have to see how well he does with the duties at center, before we make any judgements good or bad.

I hate to say it but Render and several others, both sides of the ball, could launch his boat with the Wisconsin game. #1 nobody runs well against them. #2 they have a 325 pound nt who does back flips.
If our lines dominate theirs both sides, lot's of people will take notice. You want to set your course? That's a good time to do it.
Win them all, be dominant in them all, but when you knock the biggest off the ball over and over, you will get some recognition.

I didn't include Fant, Nelson and Recinos because they already are listed. I was referring to players that aren't getting any preseason recognition.

I think Stanley and Epenesa both have shots, but bigger hills to climb. The B1G is loaded at QB, and Eppy probably will end up primarily as a rotational player, which will hurt his stats and exposure.

this should make us all feel confident about the up coming season which is only a little over 3 months away (hard to believe)

A lot of this depends on how the coaching staff utilizes Eppy. On the one hand he still has a great deal to learn in his basic duties at defensive end. He is also an emerging weapon disrupting opposing backfields. There is also the possibility of moving him inside in obvious passing situations. He was pretty darn good as a true freshman based to a large degree on raw talent. It will be exciting to see how far along he is, after a year of development.

Absolutely. He could be a star, but my feeling is that the coaches are intent on rotating the D-linemen...a lot. But, if Eppy makes play after play, it will be hard to keep him off the field.

And, yes, I agree about the plan to move him inside on passing downs, a la, Christian Ballard. I felt that was the case ever since he committed.
