At what point do the players just say WTF?

Rehashing Q4's play calling, at what point do the players (and probably any recruit watching the Outback Bowl) just say WTF and realize the play calling and strategy has gone from trying to win to running out the clock and lose interest and faith in the coaching staff? Do you think games like this impact recruiting and the attitude of players coming into next season?

Probably a topic being beaten to death lately but probably deservedly so. I'm still kind of like WTF...

Actually the team adopts a mantra of "Worst To First" and has WTF printed on t-shirts and chants W-T-F at practices and team meetings to get kids hyped up.

It's not easy living inside the Palace that Kirk built. When James Ferentz got in trouble as a freshman he was in the doghouse for a few minutes. If his last name had been Smith those mistakes would've followed him his entire career at Iowa.

I don't see attrition as that big of a problem.

Iowa brings in a lot of 2-3 star guys who don't get developed into contributors. Those guys should be encouraged to transfer, rather than taking up scholarships that could go to someone else. This sort of thing happens everywhere.

As for guys like DW who leave for other reasons...well two years after he left Iowa he was the 7th leading receiver on a below average Big 12 team. Could he have helped this year? Probably, but it's not like he was the second coming of Randy Moss. The passing game woes are just as much about schemes and play-calling as they are about personnel.

And we had 2 guys leave who ended up starting for Bowl winners.

Not until we get someone to teach the linemen how to pass block.
We threw the pall 30 yards or more 11 times this year. That's right, 11. We threw the ball 40 yards or more 0 times. We had a QB who was injured much of the year and could not move in the pocket well. What this means is, defensive backs could jump routes, and defenses could bring constant pressure. We had some poor pass blocking games, but generally that wasn't the biggest issue. Lack of pocket presence or ability move (I love CJ but he had to be hurt) in the pocket, and a very very poor passing game scheme led to sacks, low passing yards, and just overall a dumpster fire of a passing game.
