Article in the CR Gazette

Log into the CR Gazette and read the article with extended comments from our two transfers. They sound very articulate, candid, and what they say, at least to me, sounds very logical. They had nothing to lose or gain from making the comments they did, so I guess I will take them at their word. Some of those who have posted views that sound a bit like a conspiracy theory will be disappointed, or they may want to question how truthful the two young men are being. Of course, those folks are entitled to their opinions, but I think everyone will find this article pretty interesting.

Then bounce over to the Iowa City Press Citizen and read the article about/with Connor McCaffrey. Good stuff! Geez, with Iowa football's 2017 class with 8 commits and ranked in the top 10 or 12 in the country, we have a lot of good stuff going on right now. Yahoo! And, Go Hawks!

I'm not upset with either kid. And I'm not upset with Fran. Hopefully it works out for all parties involved in the long run.

Huck, thanks for bringing the articles to our attention and BigD appc the links. Although I question some of his in-game decisions (my prerogative as a fan), I do think Fran is able to evaluate talent. 1) I'm glad Fran recruited players who wanted to fight for playing time; 2) reading between the lines of their comments, it appears Fran or the coaching staff let Hutton and Fleming know where they stood in the pecking order on next year's roster, and that wasn't going to be enough for them. Hopefully Fran and the staff are seeing something in the other players to put together a competitive team for 2016-17 and beyond.

Re: Connor, always hard to know how good a high school kid is going to develop as a D1 college player. It looks, though, like the coach's kid can be a leader on the floor, which is a huge positive. This team has needed it. I don't know who that's going to be next year.

Fran was up front with Fleming which is what you want. Tell it like it is and no reason to lead a young man on. I don't see any problems with any parties here, which them well on their next endeavors and the Iowa program to move on as well. They only have 4 yrs so it's difficult for them to accept when no PT. But, sounds like they had a frank discussion & Fleming got caught up in the numbers or depth problem for him.

I like the way Fran handled it.
