ARob wasn't that great (and the numbers to prove it)

The yards per carry (minimum 25 carries) for every Hawkeye RB after the injury-marred 2004 season...

Sims 2005 9.9 avg
Greene 2006 6.4 avg
Greene 2008 6.0 avg
Young 2005 5.4 avg
Hampton 2008 5.1 avg
Coker 2010 5.0 avg
Sims 2007 5.0 avg
Sims 2006 5.0 avg
Young 2007 4.7 avg
Greene 2005 4.7 avg
Robinson 2010 4.6 avg
Robinson 2009 4.6 avg
Young 2006 4.4 avg
Hampton 2010 4.2 avg
Wegher 2009 4.0 avg

So there you have it. The only non-injured back Robinson was able to outperform was Wegher, who looks particularly overrated when looking at these numbers. Robinson was a below average Hawkeye running back.

Here is the number to prove it.

He was the premier back in 10 games in an offense that ran more than passed and didn't average 100 yards per game.

This is ridiculous. Wegher was overrated? You're basing that off of exactly one season, and a true freshman one at that. Nobody said that Robinson was the most talented back, but he's produced consistently. 4.6 isn't amazing, but it's hardly something to sneeze at, either. We're going to miss his contributions next year, just like we missed Hampton's and Wegher's this year.

Adam Robinson was our starter in 2009 and 2010. I would take 4.6 yards from a starter any day of the week. Below average? I think not!! I mean seriously you include Coker who has what played 2.5 games?

I wish he would have been given the other .5 against OSU because he was tearing it up.

Here's a list of other premier backs that either play in offenses that run more often than pass, or received more carries than A-Rob, that didn't average 100 ypg this year:

DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma (257 carries)
Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State (256 carries)
Roy Helu, Jr., Nebraska (177 carries)
Evan Royster, Penn State (188 carries)
Noel Devine, West Virginia (201 carries, playing in bowl right now)
Mark Ingram, Alabama (146 carries)
Anthony Allen, Georgia Tech (240 carries, including his bowl game)
Dion Lewis, Pittsburgh (197 carries)

That stat doesn't prove one single thing, pal. There's a Heisman Trophy winner in there, as well as some top NFL prospects. Because I'd be willing to bet that if I'd just listed those names and said you can pick any one of these backs to replace A-Rob, you'd probably take all but maybe one or two over Adam. Yet they don't meet your standard for a great running back, either.

Even so, what if Coker bites the dust next year with an injury, who's next? Johnson- ( no carries ) Rogers ( failed cardiology test and future fullback ) Coe- ( no carries ) McCall - ( not completely committed ) White- ( 5 career carries? )
I think Arobs need is pretty valuable compared to the others, just saying..

LOL- you just listed a stat that includes a bunch of backup RBs....hilarious!

Robinson is the best receiver at the position since Young and in the conversation for best blocker, at the position ever. He rarely took negative carries and made plays on third downs. He will be missed.

Wegher was definitely overrated. A 4.0 avg. is terrible in college football, even for a true freshman. Hampton and Coker both averaged over 5 yards per carry as true freshmen.

The list with a minimum of 50 carries rather than 25...

Greene 2008 6.0 avg
Young 2005 5.4 avg
Hampton 2008 5.1 avg
Coker 2010 5.0 avg
Sims 2007 5.0 avg
Sims 2006 5.0 avg
Young 2007 4.7 avg
Robinson 2010 4.6 avg
Robinson 2009 4.6 avg
Young 2006 4.4 avg
Wegher 2009 4.0 avg

And a minimum of 100 carries

Greene 2008 6.0 avg
Young 2005 5.4 avg
Sims 2007 5.0 avg
Sims 2006 5.0 avg
Young 2007 4.7 avg
Robinson 2010 4.6 avg
Robinson 2009 4.6 avg
Young 2006 4.4 avg
Wegher 2009 4.0 avg

Any way you cut it, Robinson is on the bottom half of the list and Wegher is dead last. We haven't had a quality running back since Greene.

JR. Go back to your day job. Seriously, you sir are clueless..

You do realize that Adam's is a SOPHMORE.. Let's look at Sophmore #'s with same work load.

Where would you rank a guy like Adam Weber from MN as a QB? Compare him to Stanzi, Tate, Banks, etc

Young's Sophmore year he averaged 4.4. So if we using this analogy then Adam would have been better than Young. :)

Where is Sims Sophmore #'s? How about Greene? :)

Young averaged 5.4 as a Soph.
Greene averaged 6.4 as a Soph.
Sims averaged 9.9 as a Soph.

Any other questions? :)
