Arizona fans seem confident....

last time I checked it was very hard to throw a touchdown from the bench. Iowa 27-14

Unless Stanzi gives them a gift. I thought he did a good job this Sat of looking off some receivers deep and delivering the sure, short gain. However, that quick out could've been taken to the house had it been a decent pass. I hope it was an anomaly.

Stanzi has not made the simple mistakes he made last year in throwing the pick 6. Foles is a better QB than what Iowa faced last year but he isn't a heisman level QB. Iowa's defense has allowed on average 17 points the last 4 years I believe. Coach Ferentz and staff learned from the last trip to Zona after the whoopin Iowa recieved. It is going to be a tough game but there is no way the Arizona offense puts 17 points on the board, unless Stanzi helps Arizona out Iowa wins 27-17.

The only comparision between this trip to Arizona and Iowa's to ASU in 2004 will be:

Night game
West Coast time zone--time change
Game played in Arizona

Outside of that....not too many similarities.

That was Drew Tate's first road start. The defense was horrible and Iowa's only TD was a late punt return by Walner Belleus.

Taking nothing away from Foles, this game will not be close.

We will beat them in a similar fashion to how we beat ISU.

Our defensive line will control the game.

Different players, different team than 2004. Coaches are the same, and we know one thing about Ferentz and Co., and that is they learn from previous experience. They will be ready for this game. I don't see us being disappointed by the trip out west this year!

They have a very high-powered offense with a full arsenal of dangerous weapons, all of whom can tear up the field for tons of yardage and score almost at will.

Just like Georgia Tech.

We don't stand a chance.

that was (other than the first year) the worst game of the Ferentz era. Totally unprepared. And the worst thing about that game is that Arizona State team ended up going something like 5-7.

BUT I think they'll learn from that and this year's team will be ready.

ASU went 5-7 the year that we beat them in Iowa City. They went 8-3 (9-3 with the bowl win over Purdue, in which Andrew Walter didn't play) in 2004. So that team was pretty damn good. It was also Tate's first road game. This team is better in a lot of ways than that 2004 team was. And Ferentz never makes the same mistake twice. They'll be much better prepared for this game.

You're right. But it still was the least prepared Iowa team I've seen under Ferentz.

When looking at last year we need to keep in mind we didn't face the Foles we'll see next week.

The time, the heat, first road game of the year, better opponent, our style of play....I expect a close game with Iowa pulling out a narrow victory.

And will be yelling at the 45 yard line 36 row with my black & gold bibs in the 100 degree heat...

In truth I do not believe Foles came into the game last year against the Hawks until later in the 2nd half. We faced their other QB for most of the game and he was more of a runner then a passer. I agree taht Foles will pick us apart...just depends on how well the front 4 can penetrate the O'Line.

I think they will score and make this a close game but do feel the Hawks will pull out a win!

My take: Kirk learned from the ASU experience what to do and not do in prepping your team for a West coast trip. Kirk is very good at making adjustments. Toss out the wins Iowa and Arizona have notched thus far. It will be a hard-fought game. Good teams find ways to win and if Iowa is truly a top 10 team, it will find a way to win Saturday.

I see this game being somewhere in the range of a 23-13 or 23-14 win for the Hawks. Even taking my Hawkeye goggle off, I do think this is the most sound Iowa team I have watched in my 30 years of following Iowa football team.

The key will be our defense. Can we contain their qb. I expect Arizona will get close to 100 yards on the ground but the key will be to keeping Foles around 200 yards of passing. I don't see him lighting up Iowa's defense for 300 yards.

I think Stanzi will have to have a big game via the air. If Stanzi can notch about 250 yards in the air and eliminate any interceptions, I like our chances. Lots of things have to fall in place but I do think Iowa is a better team.

As for Arizona fans ... well, they are fans so they are going to be confident in their team. However, some of their fans unveiled their ignorance by thinking Arizona will put up 40 points on the Hawks. Any true follower of college football knows that Iowa does not allow a lot of points and this year's defense, I think, will go down as Kirk's best.

But hey, we have our share of crazy fans as well who think we will waltz in and out of Tucson with an easy win. Not against Arizona, and not on its home turf.

But when it is all said and done I think the Hawks walk out with a hard-fought win ..

I like Iowa in this game by at least 7 or more. Don't think our defense will ever let it be close. IMO after this game the electricity in Iowa City is going to hit unprecedented levels. The first two weeks have me thinking this could be one of the better prepared Ferentz teams I've seen. Very fluid, very confident and simply TCB-ing - but not cocky, they're heads aren't too big, they just shut up, take care of the task at hand and move on. I love it. Can't wait to experience Kinnick on Oct 2nd!

Go Hawks
